He ties a towel low around his hips and walks out, leaving me in the steamy bathroom. I dry off slowly, my skin still tingling from the water and his presence. A strange, hollow feeling sits in my stomach.
After all that… nothing happened. I don't know why I feel so disappointed. I should be relieved.
I pull on clean underwear and a soft t-shirt and settle on the edge of the massive bed. My damp hair cools the back of my neck.
I pick up a book from the nightstand, trying to lose myself in the words, but they're just shapes on a page. My mind is still in the shower, with the feel of his eyes on me.
He comes back into the room a few minutes later, a fresh drink in his hand. He presses a button on the wall intercom.
"Bring up food," he says, his voice clear and commanding. Then he glances at me. "What do you want?"
The question surprises me. He's never asked before. "Uhm… the teriyaki salmon, please. And rice."
