"No! Please no! I promise I will stay away!" Mia is sobbing, completely hysterical.
"You better," I snarl. "Otherwise, I will break both your arms. Do you understand?"
Mia nods frantically, her face mashed against the table. "Yes, yes, I understand!"
I'm about to let Mia go when my phone rings. Still pressing Mia down with her arm twisted, I beckon Mac to bring it over. The contact displayed is simply, Husband.
Mac swipes to answer and brings the phone to my ear. "I am busy right now," I say into the receiver, my voice tight.
"I heard," Vega's low voice replies. "Give her the phone."
I gesture for Mac to place the phone near Mia's ear. Mac carefully holds it next to the distraught woman's head.
"Hello," Mia manages, her voice brittle like she's about to break down completely.
I watch her face. A few seconds into the call, her complexion turns ashen. She isn't crying now; she's terrified.
Mia pulls her head away slightly. "He wants to speak to you."
