Chapter 11 - Opening the Purple Treasure Chest

Lin Qiqi was taken aback. "Da Fei? You're Da Fei?"

The director's words jolted everyone, and they instantly realized it was true! They hadn't noticed before, but now that it was pointed out, the resemblance was undeniable. He looked just like he did on TV!

"Da Fei, why are you here?"

Everyone crowded around enthusiastically. Lin Chudong chuckled, "I'm just here for a cameo. I'm a Lin Qiqi fan, hoping to get an autograph." He could lie without a second thought.

Lin Qiqi's face lit up with joy. "Da Fei-ge is actually my fan! And he even taught me how to play the piano and sing. I'm so honored!"

"No wonder Qiqi learned so quickly! It was a master's guidance. Learning a song in ten minutes, a professional is a professional!"

Li Bo added, "Da Fei, you think you could write a theme song for my next movie?"

"No problem, Bo-ge!"

Lin Chudong, of course, didn't take this kind of polite talk seriously.

The director walked over and said, "We heard about Da Fei leaving the band. We won't get involved in who's right or wrong."

"Is this song Da Fei Band's song?"

The director was being polite, mainly wanting to ask if the song had copyright.

If it was Da Fei Band's copyright, then the song couldn't be broadcast and would have to be cut later. They might need to re-record it, replacing Lin Chudong with another unknown, which would be very troublesome and the show's effect would be poor.

Lin Chudong said, "This song is called 'Chengdu'. The copyright is in my own hands. This is the last song I wrote for the band, but I hadn't signed the contract before I left."

The director breathed a sigh of relief, "That's good. Regardless of the outcome, we wish Da Fei well."

"I reiterate, this reality show has absolutely no script. Running into Da Fei was purely coincidental."

"At the end of the show, let's all sing Da Fei's new song, 'Chengdu' together."

"Super challenge, that's life. We'll see you next time!"

With the melodious music, the recording of the show was finished.

Once the cameras were off, everyone immediately looked tired. The originally cheerful atmosphere disappeared, replaced by silence.

"Let's have a drink later. Bo is treating, Da Fei, you coming too?"

Lin Chudong shook his head. "I won't go. Thanks."

"Alright, then."

Inviting Da Fei was just a courtesy. Now that he'd left Da Fei Band, he wasn't even a third-rate singer. Nobody wanted to associate with him.

That's how the entertainment industry worked. When you were hot, everyone around you was incredibly enthusiastic.

The moment your popularity faded, those same people would immediately make you feel the difference.

Lin Chudong was about to get on his electric bike and leave when suddenly Lin Qiqi ran over.

"Da Fei, I asked the director to give you a red envelope. Don't think it's too little, just consider it a good luck token."

Logically speaking, Lin Chudong's status meant he'd get a significant appearance fee for participating in the variety show.

Even if it was just a cameo for one episode, the fee wouldn't be small.

But now that Lin Chudong wasn't with Da Fei's studio, the director had no intention of paying him.

Lin Qiqi was kind enough to ask for a red envelope, and a large envelope contained what looked like ten thousand yuan.

Lin Chudong's heart warmed at the sight of the money.

"Thank you. Come to me if you need any songs in the future."

This ten thousand yuan was like a helping hand in the snow, a significant gesture.

Lin Qiqi chuckled, "Okay, I'll bother Da Fei then, let's add each other on WeChat!"

The two exchanged contact information, and Lin Chudong rode his electric scooter back to the music store.

Lin Chudong finally breathed a sigh of relief. The show was scheduled to air in a few days. By then, the song should be released. If the production crew didn't cut out his segment entirely, it should have a decent effect.

All of this was thanks to the Lucky Card; it had helped him immensely!

Back at the music store, Jia Lu had already left. Under Liang Yin's questioning, Lin Chudong recounted what had happened on the road.

Hearing this, both she and Wang Zhi were stunned.

"Seriously? Your Nine-Turn Large Intestine took first place? You beat even a top-level chef? Make me one, I want to taste it!"

Lin Chudong said, "You're getting cocky. Don't think you can boss me around just because you're the boss. I'm selling my skills, not myself!"

"Hmph, then I'll starve myself to death and let you lose your job!"

"..."

What a peculiar way of thinking!

It had to be said, Liang Yin was definitely a talent!

Considering her… chest… ah, no! Considering she was the boss, Lin Chudong made her a few dishes. She ate them with her mouth full of oil, giving thumbs up continuously. Wang Zhi was so excited he almost cried; finally, he wouldn't have to eat takeout anymore.

"Alright, eat up. I'm going to rest. Oh, and tell Jia Lu to come early tomorrow; I found her a teacher."

"Got it!"

...

Back in his room, Lin Chudong could finally open the treasure chest. He'd realized that having musical talent alone wasn't enough to become a top musician.

In this era, capital reigned supreme. Overcoming it with talent alone was incredibly difficult.

Fortunately, he had these heaven-defying treasure chests to rely on.

Treasure chest, open!

[Purple Treasure Chest x1] [Pet Training (Advanced)]

Lin Chudong: ???

Even though his life skills were diverse, this was a bit much, wasn't it? What use was a pet training skill to him?

At least being able to cook satisfied his appetite. This pet training skill… was he supposed to become a beast tamer?

It seems the items in this treasure chest are quite varied, but it doesn't matter. You can never have too many skills.

Lin Chudong immediately chose to learn, and the information on Pet Training flooded his mind.

Disappointingly, it was another Purple Treasure Chest.

Open.

[64:59:59]

Although it was still a Purple Treasure Chest, the countdown was longer this time, a full 65 hours! If the treasure chest times kept getting longer, obtaining items would be too slow.

Could it be because he hadn't used up his Lucky Cards from the last time, so the system thought he still had items and slowed things down?

The system didn't even give a detailed explanation, leaving him to figure it out himself?

He couldn't just use these two Lucky Cards based on such a vague guess, could he?

These things were very useful, so he should save them for now. If the treasure chest opened slowly, then so be it. He'd just wait.

That evening, Su Yulin replied to the WeChat message he'd sent earlier.

"Just finished rehearsal. Can I come find you at nine tomorrow?"

"Yeah, come have breakfast."

"Should I bring something?"

"Nah, I'll make it."

Su Yulin: You're making it???

"Good night!"

The next morning, Wang Zhi was roused from his sleep by a delicious aroma.

"Da Fei, are you cooking up a Manchu-Han Imperial Feast first thing in the morning? How much did the landlady pay you?"

Lin Chudong said, "Cut the crap. Su Yulin's coming later. Hurry up and open the door."

Wang Zhi's eyes widened with excitement. "What! Goddess Su is coming? I need to go wash up!"

Lin Chudong: ...

Do you have any dignity?

So what if she's a goddess? She's not interested in you.
