Chapter 42 - Chapter 42: Bet You Didn't See That Coming, I Can Fly...

The storm was coming.

A powerful ocean current surged from the deep blue sea, whipped into a frenzy by howling winds, sweeping over Ohara.

Torrents of rain poured down, mingling with Sakazuki's cold sweat as it dripped into the ocean.

This wasn't good—his usual tricks weren't working!

His signature move, Hellhound, born from the Magma-Magma Fruit, was all about overwhelming force—blazing heat, raw power, and lightning speed. It was infamous for taking down pirates in a flash.

By his calculations, Sakura Haruno, who wasn't a Logia-type ability user, shouldn't have been able to withstand the impact of a volcanic eruption!

So why was he the one getting sent flying by a blade of light? Was this… fair?

In his stunned daze, Sakazuki squinted through the haze of ash and sulfurous smoke. There, rising from the molten lava, was the girl.

Her crimson, snake-like eyes glinted with confusion. Blood trickled from the corner of her mouth, but her smile didn't waver. Her black ninja outfit was torn open at the back, revealing bruised, battered skin.

"Pfft!" Sakura wiped her mouth, spitting out a glob of blood-tinged saliva. "What the heck just happened to me?"

A faint connection pulsed in her mind, high above in the sky. It felt like, if she wanted to, she could bend the heavens themselves, turning the world around her into a weapon.

[Notification: Weather Control (Temporary) activated. Remaining time: 1 minute 57 seconds… 56 seconds.]

"I'm not totally sure what's going on, but I just got a major power-up, right?"

Sakura's eyes gleamed as she instinctively raised her hand, slicing a finger through the air toward a bolt of lightning.

A crimson trail lingered where her finger passed. In that instant, a deafening screech of friction echoed across Ohara as a bolt of lightning crashed down.

The raging thunderstorm swelled, wild and unstoppable, crackling with relentless fury!

Boom!

Countless bolts of lightning rained down, carving a dazzling tree-like pattern across the sky.

Under the relentless bombardment, Kuzan and the airborne Sakazuki couldn't even hold their forms together.

The moment their ice or magma coalesced, the lightning shattered it. But if they didn't use their abilities, the rampant bolts would tear right through them.

They were caught in a bind, unable to advance or retreat.

Effortlessly wielding the power of Weather Control, Sakura unleashed chaos, conjuring all sorts of meteorological disasters.

Hurricanes, hail, torrential rain, blizzards, thunderstorms, tornadoes…

In moments, the once-calm seas of Ohara were transformed into the treacherous, unpredictable climate of the Grand Line.

But while these disasters were destructive and far-reaching, they weren't quite enough to take down the legendary powerhouses of the Grand Line.

Whoosh!

Kuzan conjured an ice umbrella to shield himself, while Sakazuki seized the chance to reform his body, hurling a wave of molten lava that fused with Kuzan's ice to create an obsidian shell.

The sturdy stone barrier rose from the ice, and with a dull rumble, the two began adapting to Sakura's attack patterns. Using their Observation Haki, they tracked and countered the onslaught of disasters, steadily closing in on her.

"These two are absolute monsters…" Sakura muttered, panting with exhaustion. She glanced at the warship carrying Sauro and the others.

They were almost out of range of the Navy's cannons, but with someone like Kuzan—who could freeze the ocean itself—she needed to buy them more time.

"A dangerous ability and a naturally evil pirate brat… I'll deal with you myself!" Sakazuki roared, charging forward with a massive fist of molten lava.

But before he could finish, Kuzan cut him off.

"Lock her up in Impel Down! The Navy's policy has always been to prioritize capturing ability users!"

Sakazuki snorted, his eyes flashing with bloodlust as he swung his fist toward Sakura on the icy sea.

The searing heat vaporized the already boiling seawater, and from the roiling clouds of white-hot mist, a terrifying magma hound opened its ferocious maw, lunging to tear her apart!

If she dies in battle, it's not like I'm disobeying HQ's orders!

"Ugh!" Kuzan's Observation Haki swept over his colleague, who was hell-bent on wiping out every pirate in sight. He sighed in frustration.

With a flick of his wrist, an ice spear infused with Armament Haki formed in his hand, and he hurled it at Sakura, its radiant glow cutting through the air!

Learning from their earlier mistake—when Sakura had nullified their attacks—the ice-and-fire duo now coordinated perfectly. One unleashed a wide-ranging assault, while the other aimed with deadly precision.

Their combined attack wove a net of destruction, leaving Sakura with nowhere to escape.

"Wow, you guys don't hold back, do you?" Sakura quipped, raising her hand to summon another hurricane to disrupt their onslaught.

But then, golden text flashed before her eyes, and her connection to the heavens abruptly severed.

[Notification: Weather Control (Temporary) has ended.]

System, you piece of—!

[Notification: You can expend achievement points to reactivate. Would you like to proceed?]

No way! I'd rather die out here or jump off this ice than spend a single point on your stupid reactivation!

After mentally cursing out the system's entire family tree, Sakura shifted into a ready stance, gripping her weapon tightly.

When in doubt, go all out!

"Let's see if this does the trick!" she shouted.

Sakura closed her eyes, her Conqueror's Haki surging wildly. Her unyielding desire for freedom wrapped around her soul, resonating with unstoppable force!

Her Haki roared, shaking the seas.

Kuzan and Sakazuki, charging toward her with their combined assault, caught a fleeting glimpse of rainbow light in their eyes.

A giant "DANGER" sign seemed to flash above their heads.

"Elbaf's Spear: Weiguo!!!"

With a swing of her massive sword, an enormous wave of scorching sword energy tore through the ocean.

Two warships along its path were obliterated by the spiraling shockwave. Kuzan and Sakazuki were swallowed by the terrifying crimson arc, vanishing silently in its wake.

Crush!

Everything in the path of this giant's spear was mercilessly crushed.

The ferocious storm and tidal waves it unleashed only began to subside after the third resounding boom echoed across the sea.

Sakura collapsed onto the ice, utterly spent, tongue lolling as she gasped for air.

A half-melted Sakazuki crashed down from the sky, his magma slowly reforming his body.

He struggled to his feet and staggered toward Sakura, raising a fist dripping with molten lava, ready to bring it down without a word.

Clang!

An ice spear shot from a distance, intercepting Sakazuki's fist.

"Kuzan, are you protecting a pirate?!" Sakazuki barked.

"She's already down. She's a prisoner now!" Kuzan shot back.

The two towering men erupted into a heated argument right in front of Sakura!

Sprawled on the ground, Sakura only wished she had some peanuts, sunflower seeds, or a bottle of water to enjoy the show.

"Stop fighting, you two, just chill…" she mumbled.

Whoops!

Two murderous glares locked onto her, and she promptly shut her mouth.

"Roger Pirates member, Sakura Haruno! You are hereby arrested for attacking government vessels, obstructing the Ohara operation, and conspiring to obtain ancient weapons!" Kuzan declared.

He signaled a warship to approach, and soldiers armed with seastone cuffs moved in to apprehend her.

"Heh, sorry, but I'm not ready to end my journey here!" Sakura grinned.

At her words, Kuzan and Sakazuki's eyes narrowed, and they whipped around.

But the power called chakra had already transcended the bounds of time and space, connecting to a kunai etched with a cherry blossom mark, embedded in the cabin of a warship that had escaped Ohara's waters.

Whoosh!

A flash of pink light, and the magma and ice spear that followed only shattered the ice where she'd been. Sakura was gone.

All that remained was a faint echo, taunting the two Navy rising stars right to their faces.

"Bet you didn't see that coming—I can fly…"

The two towering Marines stared at each other in silence, speechless for a long moment.
