Chapter 39 - Chapter 39: The Island Begins to Burn

"Urgh—!"

Sauro woke from his unconscious state, finding his body wrapped in bandages. His gaze shifted upward to Nico Robin, who was perched on a small hill.

"Did you patch me up? Thanks!" Sauro's massive hand reached out, playfully tapping Robin's head.

"Oh, by the way, I'm Sauro. Hagwar D. Sauro."

"D?" Robin, who had been about to explain something, was immediately intrigued by the middle initial.

"This? I don't really know much about it, just that everyone in my family has it," Sauro said, scratching his head with a huge grin. "Dereshishi, dereshishishishi!"

"What a weird laugh!" Robin, hugging her knees, giggled at Sauro's antics. "I'm Nico Robin, and by the way, I didn't bandage you up!"

"That was me, you ungrateful giant!"

A massive slab of roasted sea beast meat was lobbed at Sauro, stuffing his mouth and cutting off his laughter.

"Mmph?" Sauro gulped it down and turned to see the pink-haired girl panting in the distance.

"Sakura-chan!" His eyes lit up briefly before his expression darkened. "Oh no, this is bad…"

"This is Ohara, I know!"

Unlike Sauro's panic, Sakura had come to Ohara fully prepared, chasing the achievement points she could earn here. But Sauro, who hadn't been pursued by the Navy after Sakura intercepted their warship, had still drifted to Ohara, following his original path.

Was this some kind of cosmic force guiding everything?

"The Harrei Codex… the prophecy of the Third World," Sakura muttered, staring at her raised palm.

Navigating a future anchored by bizarre Devil Fruit powers and even seers made her blood boil with excitement!

"What are we supposed to do? That's nation-destroying firepower!" Sauro groaned, his massive hands ruffling his lion-like mane as he slumped to the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust.

"Wait, what are you guys talking about? I don't get it!" Robin said, anxiously grabbing Sakura's hand. "Sakura-chan, tell me!"

"The scholars of Ohara and the Tree of Knowledge have been targeted by the World Government. They've issued a Buster Call to wipe them out!" Sakura explained, her voice heavy.

"A Buster Call… You're lying, right, Sakura?!" Robin stammered, stepping back, her eyes and brows trembling.

"You can probably already see the government's warships from the west side of the island. Your mother should be arriving soon, too," Sakura said, her heart sinking. It was tough to break the news of her homeland's impending destruction to such a young girl.

"I don't believe you!" Robin shouted, shutting her eyes. Using her ability, she conjured a staircase of arms and ran toward the distant town.

Sauro reached out to stop the girl who had also helped him, but his hand missed her. He turned to Sakura, eyes pleading. "Sakura-chan…"

"Sauro!" Sakura's low voice snapped, making the giant straighten up.

"I'm going to help them. You with me?"

Her Observation Haki swept the area, picking up the chaos in the distant town. With a flash of Shave, Sakura vanished.

"Ah, I'm… I'm such an idiot!" Sauro roared, standing and charging after the two girls.

Meanwhile, on the northwest side of Ohara…

Four ships loaded with World Government secret assassination agents had docked.

"Hey, quit dawdling! Mess this up, and you'll ruin my promotion!" a man in a black coat barked, chomping on a cigar as he stepped off the ship.

"Listen up: one team controls the scholars, the other searches for evidence."

"Yes, sir! Spandine, sir!" the armed agents responded in unison, storming into Ohara's town. They ransacked homes, smashing and burning, searching for anything to pin crimes on the scholars.

Soon, flames and chaos spread across the island, shattering the peaceful lives of Ohara's residents forever.

"Guhaha! I can already hear the sound of my promotion!" Spandine strutted through the burning town, arms waving as if conducting the flames.

Crossing the streets, Spandine and his group reached the outskirts of the Tree of Knowledge. A large number of CP9 agents stood guard, and many scholars had already been captured.

"Hahaha, everything going smoothly, folks?" Spandine asked, arms crossed as he approached the scholars.

"Yes, sir. You've worked hard, too, sir," the black-suited agents replied, standing at attention and saluting the man with his hands in his pockets.

Suddenly, a rustle from the bushes nearby caught Spandine's attention.

"Hey, you, go check it out!" he ordered, pointing at a nearby agent.

With the sound of Shave, a white-haired CP9 agent darted over, returning with a young girl and tossing her to the ground.

"The government's goons! That child is innocent!" Dr. Clover D., eyes bloodshot, shouted as he saw Robin captured.

A group of scholars broke through the CP9 guards. Dr. Clover rushed forward, pulling Robin into his arms, while others formed a human shield around them.

"Huh? Who cares? My orders are to let no scholar escape!" Spandine sneered, his grin menacing.

Just then, his Den Den Mushi rang, reporting evidence of the scholars' research into the Void Century.

"Well, well, Ohara's scholars, today your death sentence is sealed!" Spandine declared, raising his arms triumphantly to signal the agents.

The armed agents loaded their weapons, aiming at the scholars.

"All that's left is to report to the Five Elders, and then…"

As the gleeful Spandine reached for his Den Den Mushi, a sword's song rang out, slicing through the distance toward him!

"What?!"

Though not the strongest, Spandine's CP9 training kicked in, and he barely twisted his body to dodge. Two agents guarding him sensed the attack and stepped in front, shouting, "Iron Body!"

"God's Evasion—!"

A black thunderclap erupted from the void, a sword slash illuminating everyone's faces as it tore a lingering red streak through the air.

Clang!

Facing a master swordsman's strike with their bodies, the outcome was predictable. The two CP9 agents collapsed, blood gushing from massive chest wounds, eyes rolling back.

Sakura seized the moment, rushing to Spandine's side. She landed a punch while snatching the golden Den Den Mushi from his coat.

Alternating between Shave and Moonwalk, her afterimage flickered as she appeared before the scholars, tilting her head and flashing a peace sign.

"Buster Call… stopped!"

Spandine, tumbling across the ground, gaped in shock, his expression mirrored by the scholars and agents alike.

"Eh—?!"
