Damien's POV
The moon has always been my witness, silent, cold, and merciless. But tonight, even she looks away from me.
Her face bleeds red across the sky, an omen whispered through generations of my kind, the moon weeps when a king's heart turns to ruin.
I think she's weeping for me.
I can't breathe without seeing him. I can't close my eyes without hearing his voice. Every whisper of the wind carries his name, Adrian. Every heartbeat reminds me of the words I should've said but didn't.
"I love you."
gods, how hard was it to say those words? But I didn't. I couldn't. Not when my kingdom was watching, not when our alliance was fragile and our people were ready to draw blood at the smallest hint of weakness. Love between a wolf and a vampire was blasphemy. It was treason.
And now he's gone.
And I can't help but feel that I'm the reason why.
