Barnard's eyes suddenly turned cold when he heard Kevin's threat. If not for the fact that this was a world that did not allow him to do as he pleased, he would have killed Kevin right here, right now.
Additionally, he understood the importance of power. Even though he himself was strong, that did not imply that he would be able to protect his brother. At the end of the day, he would not be always by his brother's side.
So, despite the anger that was within his heart, he was not really sure how to act. Obviously, the best choice was to go with Michael's suggestion.
At least, the benefits that Michael offered were way better than the little promises that Kevin had made. It was just that, Bernard was not sure if those promises were real or not.
If he ended up betraying Kevin, and did not receive anything from Michael, then, he would have risked his brother's life.
