"Has that Scyther been trained specifically for flying?" Ethan Black narrowed his eyes as he observed the Scyther soaring with agility through the sky.
In his memory, although Scyther could fly, its flight ability shouldn't have been so remarkable. Yet that one in particular displayed an impressive mastery of the skies, and its previous Wing Attack had been overwhelming—a clear sign it had been specially trained in its Flying type.
Scyther was a Bug/Flying-type Pokémon, and it seemed that one of the trainers had enhanced the Bug side, while the other had enhanced the Flying side. Quite interesting, in Ethan Black's opinion.
Boom, boom, boom!
Ethan Black's attention returned to Sandshrew's side. The opposing Scyther's Fury Cutter had already accumulated several rounds of boosts, and likewise, Sandshrew's Rollout had also grown significantly in power.
The intensity of the clash between both Pokémon grew greater and greater.
"Enough playing around! Scyther, use Air Slash!" the opposing trainer suddenly commanded.
In midair, Scyther came to a halt. With its scythes, it began slashing at the wind, creating multiple blades of air that shot forward at high speed.
"Charmeleon, dodge them!" ordered Alex Baxter, annoyed by the opponent's taunt but keeping his composure.
Boom, boom, boom!
The wind blades violently tore through the ground, raising a dense cloud of dust and earth.
"Scyther, use Double Team!" the opposing trainer then shouted.
Taking advantage of the smokescreen, Scyther activated Double Team. When the dust settled, more than a dozen identical Scyther appeared on the field, all charging toward Charmeleon.
Seeing the enemy finally come down from the sky, Charmeleon's pent-up rage finally found an outlet. It spat out a stream of fire that swept across the field, burning away the illusions until the real Scyther was revealed.
"Graaaah!" Charmeleon roared, its claws glowing white as it lunged directly into the attack.
I am a majestic dragon! How could I possibly fear a mere insect?!
BOOM!
But in the very next instant, Charmeleon's grin froze on its face.
Through its claws, it felt an overwhelming force crash into it, and before it could react, it was violently hurled into the air, slamming against the protective barrier.
"W-what... what was that?"
"How is it possible for Scyther to have such strength?!" exclaimed Alex Baxter, utterly shocked.
He had no idea what had just happened.
"That power... could it be...?" murmured Ethan Black as his expression suddenly shifted upon witnessing the scene.
"Sandshrew, attack that Scyther now!"
Realizing the situation, Ethan Black immediately ordered an offensive. But at that moment, the opposing trainer revealed a satisfied smile, as if his trap had worked perfectly.
"Scyther, take flight!"
Just as Sandshrew charged in with Rollout, Scyther evaded with a flap of its wings, rising to avoid the strike.
"I knew it!" exclaimed Ethan Black, now with a grim expression. "The two Scyther had switched places using Double Team."
And the one that had struck Charmeleon was the same one that had powered itself up several times with Fury Cutter.
There was no way Charmeleon could withstand such an assault!
The opponent's play had been flawless. They had fallen straight into his trap.
