Chapter 68 - Girls? I'm Going to Be a Pokémon Master! [68]

Who exactly his fiancée was didn't matter at all. What mattered was that until he became the Kanto Champion or a Pokémon Master, he had no desire whatsoever to go home.

There were still plenty of things left to do—promoting [Mega Evolution], destroying evil organizations, adventuring actively through this wonderful world, and having fun with his companions (both Pokémon and humans). If someone in his group ended up liking him, then sure, he'd gladly accept their feelings.

Pure love or harem, either was fine with Satoshi—as long as everyone got along, or their relationships naturally deepened over time.

For instance, the first time he met Grookey, it was openly hostile towards humans, yet now it had become an irreplaceable partner.

A certain level of emotional foundation was necessary.

[Hey, Satobaby~ If both Soyo and Anon from MYGO fell for you, would you really start a harem?]

"Of course I would!" Satoshi replied instantly, without hesitation. Spending his life battling Pokémon alongside them sounded absolutely fantastic, and his relationships with those two were already quite strong. Naturally, he'd want to battle them both fiercely.

No problem—I'm seriously eager to battle both of them!

[Fine then... I'll look forward to watching them pin you down~]

Huh?

Satoshi tilted his head, not really getting Furiko's meaning.

Come to think of it—would his supposed fiancée really show up in person to find him?

At that thought, his feelings became unexpectedly complicated. Although he himself didn't care much about the fiancée issue, if she really did come looking, it would probably bring trouble.

Thud!

The sudden sound of palms landing lightly on his desk drew Satoshi's attention. Raising his head, he saw Kagura Hikari—his recently rediscovered childhood friend—standing before him, leaning forward slightly, cheeks faintly flushed as she confidently challenged him.

"Battle me—this time, a one-on-one Grass-type battle."

Hikari's gaze carried a defiant spark, mirroring his own fierce desire:

Battle me!

Upon hearing her request, all his lingering worries vanished instantly. There was no problem a Pokémon battle couldn't solve—and if there was, then they'd just battle again!

"Of cour—"

Ding dong dong—!

Just as Satoshi was about to enthusiastically agree, the school bell rang loudly, abruptly interrupting him and dissipating his momentum entirely.

Damn it, school bell! Why are you so terrible at reading the mood?!

"Let's wait a bit…" His hand, already reaching into his pocket for his Pokéball, reluctantly withdrew, and Satoshi slumped defeatedly across his desk, all enthusiasm drained away.

A strange suspicion suddenly crossed his mind.

Wait a second... Could Hikari actually be my fiancée?!

Afternoon arrived, and Satoshi found himself forcefully dragged onto the school's battle field by Kagura Hikari.

Normally, battle arenas would be crowded with students, but today wasn't an issue—MYGO had special privileges granting them exclusive training grounds.

That was the privilege of being top-ten!

Even more so since Kagura Hikari's team, "Stage Girls," had placed second in the Afro Buffalo Cup. Though their team had nine members, each was undeniably powerful.

"Kagura-san, please don't be so rough with him. Satoshi-kun is capable of walking on his own. Isn't that right, Tomori-chan?"

"Mhm... Satoshi-kun...can walk."

As teammates and classmates, Anon and Tomori had naturally come along to watch.

Anon had initially planned to rely on Sylveon's strength to drag Satoshi here for practice, lest he be late. But Hikari, acting as stubborn as a three-year-old, had simply yanked him over herself.

As for what Satoshi thought—Anon obviously knew exactly what it was!

If she didn't know he was excited for a Pokémon battle, she would've utterly failed as his (future) girlfriend!

"Good luck, Satoshi-kun~!"

"Good luck…"

Anon cheered energetically as usual, while Tomori softly echoed her. However, Tomori's long eyelashes quivered slightly, her gaze thoughtful, clearly burdened with something on her mind.

"Yeah, I'll do my best."

The corner of Satoshi's mouth curved upward, a bright, sunny smile appearing on his face. That carefree, handsome expression immediately caused Anon's cheeks to redden faintly, her heartbeat accelerating uncontrollably.

So cool... I wanna pamper him!

Turning away from the two girls, Satoshi locked eyes firmly with Kagura Hikari.

"So the rules are a one-on-one Grass-type battle, right?"

"Mm. Ever since our last battle, there's something I just can't let go of."

Simultaneously, they both took out Pokéballs from their pockets and tossed them into the air.

"I choose you, Grookey!"

"Quilladin, prepare for battle!"

Appearing on the battlefield were Grookey and Quilladin, both pure Grass-type Pokémon.

[Quilladin, Grass-type Pokémon! Evolves from Chespin; as for its final stage… no one even remembers that one's name! Kalos's weakest starter line—it's rumored that even after Belly Drum, its damage output is still terrible!]

[Belly Drum]: Cuts user's HP in half to maximize Attack (+12 stages, capped at +6).

Satoshi had no particular comment on Furiko's explanation, because even he had only one word to describe Chesnaught:

Weak!

Chesnaught's Grass/Fighting typing gave it an astounding six weaknesses—including a devastating quadruple weakness to Flying-type moves.

Thankfully, Grass-type starters had never lacked weak Pokémon. Torterra, Decidueye, Sceptile, and Meganium all had terrible abilities, limited move pools, or poor stat distribution, overshadowing even Chesnaught's mediocrity.

Due to this, nobody even bothered criticizing Chesnaught—its very existence was barely acknowledged.

Simply put, it couldn't compare to Rillaboom at all!

The [Grassy Surge] ability was simply too powerful.

Yet Satoshi wouldn't underestimate his opponent. In this world, bonds between trainers and Pokémon could amplify strength dramatically, even causing qualitative transformations.

Even if it was just a Kricketune, he'd never look down on it.

What exactly could a Kricketune even do? It could use cowardly moves like [Sing]!

Using sleep-inducing moves was seriously underhanded!

Therefore, Chesnaught couldn't be underestimated either!

Speaking of which…what moves did Chesnaught even learn?

At that instant, Satoshi's internal database suffered a sudden glitch.

Unfortunately, he had no time to ponder further—Hikari and her Quilladin had already begun their assault.

"Quilladin, use [Grassy Glide]!"

"Hari!" Quilladin swiftly slid across the grassy terrain, charging at Grookey like a bolt of lightning. Its tough shell emitted a peculiar glow, radiating formidable energy.

"Grookey, counter it with [Grassy Glide], too!"

At Satoshi's command, Grookey also swiftly surged forward atop the grassy field. The two Pokémon's moves collided simultaneously, Grookey's stick clashing fiercely with Quilladin's tough shell, whipping up a violent gust of wind and grass blades in every direction.
