Chapter 93 – Four People Severely Injured
At this moment, Tang San seemed almost deranged, his hands glowing white, clearly intending to continue the Douhun.
However, the tactics of Chihuo Academy had already been executed. Relying on Huo Wu's spirit abilities and the combined assault of several soul masters, they had scattered all of Shrek's formations. They then seized the opportunity to have two auxiliary-type soul masters assist Huo Wu in charging her fourth spirit ability, Huo Wu Yaoyang.
With four opponents restraining them, Tang San's group of four had no way to interfere with Huo Wu's final strike. In this situation, defeat seemed inevitable.
At the side, Yu Xiaogang looked from Huo Wu to Tang San, unsure what to decide. Clearly, he trusted Tang San's judgment more; at least in his eyes, Tang San had never made a wrong choice.
The atmosphere in the arena became unbearably tense. The entire place fell silent, and even the referee said nothing.
As the massive Huo Wu Yaoyang descended, it was like a huge sun falling to the ground. Its attack range covered almost the entire platform, and the impact was like an enormous explosion. Tang San's group, in turn, unleashed their own most powerful spirit abilities.
When the dust cleared, all four of Tang San's team lay prone on the stage, blood at the corners of their mouths, clearly seriously injured. Yang Xiong stood at the edge of the platform, his body like a silver giant. His clothes had been shredded, leaving only half a pair of trousers to cover him. His physique seemed as if cast from silver and iron—terrifying muscles exuding raw, unyielding strength.
Even Huo Wu on the opposite side couldn't help swallowing nervously.
"Yang Xiong, even though I controlled the strength and direction of my last attack, how could you come out of such a massive explosion without injury?"
The audience also swallowed hard. Although Hu Yanli was known as a purely defensive-type soul master, from what they had just witnessed, Yang Xiong's defense seemed even greater.
Yu Xiaogang, Flender, and the others rushed toward the stage, but the referee shouted sharply:
"The match is not over! No unrelated persons are allowed near the stage—otherwise, it will be ruled a loss!"
Yu Xiaogang retorted angrily:
"This isn't a Douhun anymore—this is attempted murder! According to the tournament rules, you cannot deliberately cripple an opponent. I will file a complaint!"
The referee replied coldly:
"That girl already warned them in advance, and even held back at the last moment. They insisted on taking the attack head-on. Under these circumstances, such injuries do not violate the rules."
Hearing this, Yu Xiaogang was left speechless. Though he had studied the rules of the Soul Master Tournament, it seemed he hadn't looked into them deeply enough.
The referee then turned to Yang Xiong:
"Tian Dou Royal Academy's Second Team still has one participant. Will you continue?"
Huo Wushuang suddenly spoke from the other side:
"I didn't expect your defense to be so strong. It seems you're actually the strongest among Shrek's members. Do you still want to fight?"
Yang Xiong withdrew his Martial Soul and spirit rings, shaking his head:
"There's no need. Even though you've used up a lot of soul power, you still have seven people. I'm alone. We concede this match."
Hearing that, the referee announced:
"Tian Dou Royal Academy's Shrek Team versus Chihuo Academy—Chihuo Academy wins!"
Yu Xiaogang and Flender no longer cared about the result. They quickly carried Tang San and the others off the stage. Substitute Jiang Zhu immediately began healing them, joined by several other healing-type soul masters.
One healer approached Yang Xiong, looking him over in surprise:
"That explosion was enormous, and yet aside from a slight burn, you've already recovered so quickly. Your physique is… unusual."
Yang Xiong quickly changed into new clothes, speaking calmly:
"Thank you, but I'm fine. Please focus on healing my teammates."
Ning Rongrong stayed beside him, puzzled:
"Little Bear, your body is amazing. Your defense might even be better than that big guy Hu Yanli's."
Yang Xiong allowed a small smile:
"Hu Yanli? He's just a brute, nothing more."
Oscar, after forcing out the last of his soul power to give each of the four injured members a Super Recovery Sausage, also came to Yang Xiong, gratitude written on his face:
"Brother Xiong, thanks for earlier. If you hadn't made Rongrong and me leave the stage, we would've been seriously injured. We're both auxiliary-type—our physical strength and defense are worse."
Yang Xiong sighed inwardly. The two of them were pure auxiliary-type soul masters, and now they looked completely drained—no doubt they had already used up almost all their soul power on the platform.
"This was just a regular Douhun. There's no need to focus too much on winning or losing, and certainly no need to risk your lives. Huo Wu's Huo Wu Yaoyang is simply not something you can endure at your current level."
Both of them felt a lingering sense of fear at his words.
Tian Dou Royal Academy—or more accurately, the Tian Dou royal family—reacted quickly, sending a healing-type Soul Emperor to treat Tang San and the others.
The four, who had suffered extensive burns, recovered at an astonishing rate, without even scars remaining.
Yu Xiaogang asked anxiously:
"Senior, how are their injuries?"
The Soul Emperor healer replied, a bit annoyed:
"They're fine now. Two or three days of rest and they'll be fully recovered. But they must not fight during that time, or there may be hidden risks. They're still children—don't push them this hard. If that girl hadn't controlled her power, all four could have been crippled."
"I know you want the glory of the Soul Master Tournament, to make a name for yourselves, but you also have to take care of the children's health. If something really happened to them, I couldn't help."
Yu Xiaogang and Flender exchanged glances. Yang Xiong had already conceded, but Tang San had insisted on continuing. Huo Wu's fourth spirit ability, boosted by two supports, had then struck uncontrollably—leading to these injuries.
When everyone returned to Tian Dou Royal Academy, Yu Xiaogang personally tended to Tang San, Ma Hongjun looked after Dai Mubai, and the two girls were cared for by Jiang Zhu and Qin Shuang.
Yang Xiong, meanwhile, followed Flender alone to the office. Liu Erlong stayed by Yu Xiaogang's side.
Flender remained silent for a while before speaking:
"About what happened today, I apologize on behalf of Xiao San and Xiao Gang. Your decision at the time was right."
A trace of coldness appeared at Yang Xiong's lips:
"Dean, there are some things you can handle as you see fit, but you should understand my purpose for being here. The Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect will not allow Ning Rongrong to be harmed. She is not only the Sect Master's daughter—she's the next Sect Master."
"If we suffer injury due to our own arrogance, neither I nor the Sect Master would complain. But you saw what happened today. I expect everyone in the team to have an unspoken understanding—never to act recklessly for the sake of a moment's victory."
Flender nodded after a pause:
"I understand. I'll speak to Xiao Gang and Tang San. You're all students—your safety and future are what matter most."
Yang Xiong said:
"Thank you, Dean. But I think you should be more careful. Many in Shrek have extraordinary backgrounds—Dai Mubai, Zhu Zhuqing… If something happened to them, it would be hard to explain."
Flender chuckled:
"You little brat… sometimes you're frighteningly rational. I've been around the spirit master world for decades—you don't need to lecture me. But still, thank you for getting Oscar and Rongrong off the stage earlier. I'd have felt even worse if they'd been hurt."
Yang Xiong smiled faintly:
"You're a good man, Dean. It's just… a pity."
Even after leaving Shrek and joining Tian Dou Royal Academy, they all still called Flender "Dean," as a sign of respect.
Inside the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, Ning Fengzhi sat with Bone Douluo.
Ning Fengzhi said with some emotion:
"Uncle Bone, it was the right decision to arrange for Yang Xiong to be by Rongrong's side. Otherwise, in today's match, she might have been seriously hurt."
Bone Douluo nodded:
"This boy did well in that regard—he knew to protect Rongrong first. The effort we've invested in him wasn't wasted."
Sword Douluo's previously calm face changed instantly:
"Old Bone, Fengzhi—what are you talking about? Rongrong was in danger? I need to check on her!"
Bone Douluo quickly said:
"Old Sword, she's fine. It was just the tournament. The opposing team's spirit ability was powerful, and someone on her team insisted on taking it head-on. Thankfully, Yang Xiong got her off the stage in time."
Sword Douluo didn't listen—he prepared to fly off in a hurry:
"If that's the case, she's probably shaken up. I need to see her or I won't be at ease."
As Sword Douluo flew away on his sword, Bone Douluo and Ning Fengzhi exchanged glances.
Ning Fengzhi swallowed:
"Uncle Bone… do you think Sword Uncle is just worried about her being scared, or is he using this as an excuse to go see her?"
Bone Douluo snorted:
"That old swordsman—using this chance to sneak out and see Rongrong."
Ning Fengzhi: …
After a pause, Ning Fengzhi continued:
"Uncle Bone, don't you think Yang Xiong's defense is beyond what we imagined? His talent in defense might be greater than we thought—you might want to decide sooner rather than later."
Bone Douluo actually showed a rare look of admiration:
"You're wrong—Yang Xiong's not just strong defensively. His attack might be even stronger. In the entire Tian Dou region, in terms of pure offense and defense, I doubt anyone could match him."
Ning Fengzhi looked puzzled:
"What do you mean?"
Bone Douluo sighed:
"Fengzhi, this boy is far more cunning than we thought. Unlike those show-off students, he knows how to hide his strength."
"I'd bet he's holding back at least thirty percent of his power—maybe more. If we hadn't had people watching him in secret, who would know he has a top-tier external defensive spirit bone? His own family might not even know."
Bone Douluo wasn't wrong—Yang Xiong was hiding far more than thirty percent of his strength.
Because he was assigned the role of a defensive-type soul master, he hadn't had many opportunities to display himself. No one had seen his offensive power—his teleportation or his evolved Rasengan. Especially after the Rasengan's second development, its power had grown to the point that even Yang Xiong couldn't fully control it.
It wasn't until nightfall that Tang San finally woke up. His whole body ached, his skin burned, and even his bones felt as though they were about to shatter.
Yu Xiaogang quickly said:
"Xiao San, you're finally awake. The doctor said you need to rest for two days. Don't move around."
Tang San, gritting his teeth through the pain, asked:
"Teacher… how's Xiao Wu? She wasn't badly hurt, was she?"
Yu Xiaogang replied:
"She's already been treated. She woke up once an hour ago but went back to sleep. Her injuries aren't as bad as yours, but the doctor says she also needs two days of rest."
Only then did Tang San relax, but after thinking for a while, he asked:
"Teacher… what was the result of the match?"
Yu Xiaogang sighed:
"Xiao San, I know your bond with Xiao Wu is deep, but sometimes you're too stubborn. I still don't know if that's a strength… or a flaw."
