Chapter 44 - The Pure and Foolish Miss Aura

Fíliya's first impression of the female demon named Aura was this:

Such big horns.

If Solitär's horns were like tender bamboo shoots pushing through the earth, then Aura's were unmistakably the massive horns of an old ox.

And what was with this weird hairstyle? Who put a mop on their head?

Her face, however, was quite pretty, possessing a certain cold beauty.

But her eyes didn't match her face in the slightest. A single glance told you she was an idiot, completely devoid of any grace.

Fíliya quickly evaluated the other's appearance in her mind.

Fíliya ignored Aura's confused gaze and her words.

Leaning on her cane, she slowly walked to Solitär's side.

"No wonder it's so noisy. You must be exhausted, right? Dealing with idiots is hard. You've had a tough time, really."

As Fíliya spoke, she reached out and patted Solitär on the head.

Upon seeing Fíliya, Solitär immediately broke into a smile. She was now beaming, enjoying the head pat from Fíliya.

This bizarre scene was a bit too much for Aura to comprehend. She even suspected she had been hit by some kind of illusion magic.

At that moment, the shock in Aura's heart was no less than that of... a child rushing into a hospital and telling the doctor, "My dad is pregnant." Then, during the C-section for the father, a nurse suddenly rushes out and asks the child, "Should we save the attending physician or the operating table?" Finally, a stray dog from the roadside jumps out and barks a single phrase—"Pavel Korchagin."

This feeling of utter absurdity began to spread through Aura's mind.

Why am I seeing something like this?

That fierce and cold Solitär, who never gave her a pleasant look, was actually... being friendly to a human? To emergency rations?

Am I, Aura, too normal? Or has the world gone mad?

"Solitär... wh-wh-what... What in the world is going on? Say something!!"

Eager to understand the situation, Aura sounded anything but calm.

"Say what? Is there any need for me to explain anything to you? Please leave."

The moment Solitär looked at Aura, her gaze turned much colder.

"Tsk."

Although Aura wasn't very bright, she could clearly feel the 'different treatment' from Solitär.

Why?

She wanted to ask. She was a Greater Demon who had trained for five hundred years. In every respect, she was stronger and a more suitable partner, wasn't she?

Why would Solitär be so friendly with a human?

She still didn't understand, but that didn't stop her from reacting.

A weak and unsightly human. Just kill her.

With that thought, Aura immediately launched an attack.

But Fíliya, watching the shadow ball fly towards her, just gave a casual yawn, showing no intention of resisting whatsoever.

Heh... Aura, taking in the scene, let out a cold laugh.

A powerless human, just as I thought. Can't even block such a slow attack? It seems even testing her was a waste of time.

Just as the shadow ball was about to hit Fíliya, Solitär suddenly materialized a greatsword in her hand. With a swing, she obliterated the shadow ball and thoughtfully shielded Fíliya behind her, blocking the blast from the explosion.

"Aura, Fíliya is my guest. If you dare attack her again, I will cut off your arms and legs and leave you to bake in the sun for 20 years."

Solitär casually planted the greatsword in the ground, then looked at Aura expressionlessly.

Whoa...

Fíliya inwardly rejoiced. This was the first time she had seen Solitär's magic.

She hadn't expected Solitär to also be a 'melee mage' skilled in mass-based attacks... And her fighting style was quite rough. The way Solitär swung that greatsword, which was several sizes larger than her entire body, was filled with a... paradoxical charm.

Of course, Fíliya had a feeling that Solitär definitely had more than just this one attack method. After all, the girl was a true all-rounder who knew a little bit of everything.

"Uh..."

After Solitär finished speaking, Fíliya saw it clearly.

A flicker of terror appeared on the face of the female demon named Aura.

It seemed she was well and truly frightened.

Hm?

Wait a second. Aura?

Fíliya suddenly remembered. She knew this name.

Aura the Guillotine, one of the Demon King's Seven Sages of Destruction, a Greater Demon recorded in human history.

But upon seeing Aura, Fíliya suddenly felt a sense of relief.

Because this person called Aura...

Wasn't she a bit too weak?

She had observed very clearly; after all, the Demon Race doesn't conceal their mana.

Aura's mana was only about half of Solitär's.

What the heck? I thought all Greater Demons were monsters like Solitär. Turns out a Greater Demon at the level of the Seven Sages of Destruction is this much weaker than Solitär?

So Solitär is the ceiling of power, huh... Fíliya smiled in relief.

Even after her own mana had grown significantly, Fíliya still didn't have the slightest desire to fight Solitär.

Because she could feel that the probability of Solitär instantly killing her was extremely high. Even by the most conservative estimate, she would be lucky to last three moves against Solitär.

But as for this Aura... a wicked smile unknowingly crept onto Fíliya's lips.

She felt she could take at least 20 of Aura's moves.

After all, the eyes of this demon named Aura were filled with a kind of crystal-clear stupidity.

She looked like the type who had spent her whole life studying her innate magic while disdaining all other forms.

What the heck? It's not that I'm too weak, it's just that Solitär is too strong.

After a round of wild thoughts, Fíliya nodded in satisfaction.

"..."

It was clear that Aura still felt unwilling, but Solitär's threat to cut off her limbs and bake her in the sun for twenty years left Aura no choice but to be afraid.

After all, in a one-on-one fight, Solitär could take on three of her. Moreover, Aura's proudest and most proficient magic had no effect on Solitär whatsoever.

"Alright, enough has been said. Aura, if you value your life, leave at once."

Solitär delivered the final ultimatum.

But Fíliya chose this moment to interject.

"Stop, stop, stop, Solitär! Don't be in such a hurry to send her away. What were you two talking about? Can't you share with me? I'm so curious!"

Fíliya widened her big, curious eyes and asked in a tone of malicious cuteness.

The reason Fíliya wanted Aura to stay was also very simple.

It was because this person, Aura, was simply the most emotionally and expressively rich demon she had ever seen.

A completely different type from Solitär.

Fíliya had clearly seen all of Aura's reactions just now.

First shock, then arrogance and disdain, followed by confusion and fury, and finally, it transformed into a very delicious unwillingness.

Ah... if Aura didn't have those two conspicuously large ox horns on her head, Fíliya might have actually mistaken her for a human.

How could she let such a fun, crystal-clear and stupidly cute test subject get away so easily?

Fíliya thought to herself.

Hearing Fíliya say this, Solitär, though confused, didn't say much.

"If that's what Fíliya says..."

Solitär narrowed her eyes slightly, then shot Aura another glare. If she could help it, she really didn't want Aura drinking her black tea.

"Aura, have your army stand by... Only you are allowed inside."

Solitär finally chose to compromise.
