Chapter 41 - A Double Blessing

Fíliya slowly closed her eyes. After several boring days, her mind had become much more focused than usual.

She quickly entered a state of deep meditation, subconsciously ignoring even Solitär beside her.

Where exactly is the water?

In her meditative state, Fíliya's thoughts were unusually active, and she quickly made many connections.

She remembered how, when she had bathed with Solitär before, the steam from the hot water would rise into the air, and droplets of water would always appear on the bathroom walls, seemingly from nowhere.

Did this water vapor drift to the walls and then turn into droplets?

And cooking, yes... Fíliya had often helped Solitär these past few days, and she had noticed that whenever Solitär boiled something, water droplets would form on the lid of the pot.

Why does steam turn into water droplets?

Fíliya then thought of something she often did in winter: breathing warm air from her mouth onto her hands... and every time she did, her palms would feel distinctly damp.

Not to mention the dewdrops she often found condensed on the plants she was growing in the morning.

Even though she hadn't watered the plants, there would invariably be droplets on their leaves.

As for the clouds floating in the sky and the mist rising in the forest, they were symbols of water itself.

Water vapor... turns into droplets...

Water vapor floats into the air, and under certain conditions, turns back into water droplets.

The air...

Suddenly, a flash of inspiration struck Fíliya's mind.

She suddenly felt the urge to laugh.

What had she been dawdling for all this time?

The answer was right there in the question.

Yes, she should have realized it the moment she thought of clouds and mist.

[Magic to Create Water from Nothing]

The water... doesn't it just come from... the [air]?

In all the air she could see, there was a faint yet endless supply of water.

At this thought, Fíliya slowly opened her eyes. With a confident smile, she stretched out her hand and slowly waved it in the air before her.

In the next instant, from within the circle Fíliya had casually drawn in the air, a cool substance began to gather.

"Whoosh~~"

The clear sound of flowing water echoed in the small room.

The gushing stream poured entirely into the large container in front of her, filling the water vessel in no time.

But Fíliya, as if not yet satisfied, began to wave her fingers in the air again.

Yes, she used a slender stream of water to write her own name in the air.

[Fíliya]

Looking at the name written with the stream of water, Fíliya felt exceptionally excited.

In just that short time, she had mastered [Magic to Create Water from Nothing] from scratch, as well as [Water Manipulation Magic] with the precision and skill of a veteran.

Filled with a sense of accomplishment, Fíliya's eyes darted, and she immediately turned to launch an attack on Solitär.

She manipulated several columns of water, sending them jetting toward Solitär.

Then, she was disappointed.

Solitär had completely enveloped herself in a 360-degree, gapless [Defensive Magic], taking no impact from the water streams at all.

Therefore, the scene Fíliya had been hoping for—of a drenched Solitär—naturally did not materialize.

"Ah... isn't that just cheating, Solitär? A full-body [Defensive Magic] is extremely mana-intensive. Even a First-Class Mage could only hold it for a few dozen seconds... How long can you keep it up, Solitär?"

Fíliya asked, pouting.

"Hmm, about an hour, I suppose."

Solitär said casually.

"I'm in despair. In despair over this immense gap in our mana..."

Fíliya cried out, her eyes vacant, as she stopped her water magic.

A First-Class Mage could maintain a full-coverage [Defensive Magic] for a few dozen seconds or a minute at most, yet Solitär could hold it for an hour...

As for herself, if she used a full-coverage [Defensive Magic], she'd be lucky to last even ten seconds.

Who made my mana so... huh?!!

Just as Fíliya was about to lament her lack of mana, she abruptly noticed something.

What's going on... My mana... it seems to have increased!

No, it has increased.

Fíliya quickly checked her body and thought of a possibility.

"Sorry, Solitär, I need to go upstairs."

Fíliya said, rushing quickly to the second floor.

She took a brand-new record book from her backpack. Looking at the blank pages, she felt a profound inspiration lingering in her mind, and knew she had to finish this task quickly while the feeling lasted.

Solitär, of course, had already teleported in front of Fíliya.

But she merely acted as a silent spectator, not wanting to disturb Fíliya.

Although she didn't understand why Fíliya had suddenly learned water magic, and... without looking at any grimoires.

But she knew that whatever Fíliya was doing was certain to be something very interesting.

Fíliya's writing speed was fast. She was already a veteran at clerical work from her time at the Magic Association, but now, she was in a state of perfect creative flow, her writing speed so exaggerated it was as if time had accelerated.

She finished a page faster than an ordinary person could even read one.

Solitär watched Fíliya in astonishment.

Because she noticed that during this strange writing process, Fíliya's mana was growing at a rapid pace, and her body was even emitting a wondrous glow.

This peculiar state lasted for about two minutes, and Fíliya quickly completed her creation.

Just as she closed the book, she was shocked to find that not only was her mana drained, but her physical stamina was also completely depleted.

Those short two minutes had felt like two whole days to her.

Fíliya's forehead was beaded with cold sweat, and her body nearly gave out and collapsed to the floor. Fortunately, Solitär was quick to catch her and help her into a chair.

"Solitär... is there anything to eat... I'm suddenly so hungry."

Because of her extreme weakness, Fíliya's tone sounded as if she were wheedling.

Although Solitär's heart was filled with curiosity, seeing Fíliya looking so pitiable and cute, she didn't say much. She simply turned silently and brought some food that didn't need heating and was easy to swallow to Fíliya.

Then, Fíliya began to eat voraciously.

Only after eating her fill did she have the strength to look at her masterpiece.

On the cover, which was imprinted with a gilt design, there was still a lot of space for Fíliya to work with.

And what she had just done was simply to record the process of how she mastered water magic, new applications for this water magic, and even her thought processes.

Phew... Fíliya let out a long sigh. Just as she was about to think of a title for the book's cover, the ordinary-looking book suddenly burst into a brilliant, multicolored light.

The dazzling radiance made both Fíliya and Solitär instinctively narrow their eyes.

Although the light was incredibly piercing, Fíliya kept her eyes fixed on her masterpiece. She felt that within the rainbow-hued brilliance, some words seemed to be appearing automatically on the book's cover.

When the light faded, Fíliya and Solitär were finally able to see the elegant script on the cover.

[Fíliya's Water Magic]

Seeing these words, Fíliya's mind went blank for a moment before she processed it.

I... I seem to have written a...

brand-new [grimoire]?
