Sarah POV
Maribel whipped around, her face draining of color, eyes wide with pure shock. She bolted toward the shadows where Tristan had slipped in earlier, her lantern swinging wildly. "You shouldn't have come! You need to leave, please! Lydia or Jethro might catch you here!"
Tristan barely glanced at her, shoving her aside with a firm but gentle push. He rushed to my side, his hands warm on my arms as he knelt down. "Sarah, what happened to you?" His voice was laced with worry that made my heart ache even more.
I clutched my belly, the dizziness spinning my world, the pain sharpening into unbearable. "I'm feeling so dizzy... and there's this awful pain in my belly." Tears blurred my vision, but I could see the fear in his eyes.
He moved to lift me, his arms sliding under me carefully. "No!" I gasped, pushing weakly against him. "Jethro will kill me, not after what just happened with that letter you sent for the escape."
