Chapter 89 - Chapter 86 The Mystery of the Dragon Shadow

Traveling through time.

It sounds ridiculous, but Erza and Mira actually believed it.

After all, Noah, this guy who traveled through worlds, was standing right in front of them. Besides, Noah wasn't the only one who traveled through worlds; there was another one in the guild.

Since they've already "traveled through worlds," Erza and Mira can naturally accept the explanation of "traveling through time."

Dolan and Gajeel, on the other hand, didn't have such an easy time processing the news.

If Noah's conjecture is true, then it means that Gajeel was a person from hundreds of years ago, and he traveled to the world a hundred years in the future, which is 6 years ago, in the year X777.

This explains why Gajeru said he lived with his "adoptive father" in Iron Furnace Ridge 6 years ago, because that was 400 years ago, but Gajeru was too young to tell the difference at the time.

Dolan wasn't a rigid old fogey; in fact, after hearing the words "time travel," he knew in his heart that this claim was very likely true.

Four hundred years ago was an era of "magical explosion." The quality of magic in that era was far inferior to that of today, but it produced a group of exceptionally talented magical geniuses whose creations have profoundly influenced later generations.

The powerful annihilation magic [Dragon Slayer], the versatile [Additional], and the legendary [Life Giant] which is said to be able to fight dragons were all magics created in that era.

Even the infamous "progenitor of black magic," who created demons, was a figure who appeared 400 years ago.

If it were that era, then creating a magic spell that could travel 400 years into the future wouldn't be too surprising.

After accepting this explanation, Dolan suddenly realized something and broke out in a cold sweat.

Dolan realized that the person he had just been beating up was not his junior, but his... ancestor!

By this time, Gajeel had also figured it out. Unlike Natsu, he was quick-witted and soon accepted Noah's conjecture.

After eliminating all impossible factors, however unbelievable the conclusion of time travel may seem, it is very likely to be the truth.

"Ahem, little Dolan, come and massage your grandpa's legs."

After understanding everything, Gajeel also became tougher on Doran, displaying a smug and arrogant demeanor that made even Erza's fists clench, let alone Doran's.

But with Dolan's volatile temper, could he possibly tolerate it?

Dolan immediately pulled out a hammer and pressed it down on Gajeel, declaring that he would show Gajeel what it meant to "reverse the heavenly order."

"Ancestors? I'll beat them up just the same way! Huh!"

"Help me!"

Gajeel, who was being rubbed against the ground, cried out for help at the top of his lungs, while Noah was sharing food with Erza and Mira, as if they were on a picnic.

As for Gajeel?

Sorry, we're not familiar with each other.

Of course, since he was his ancestor, Dolan didn't dare to go too far in dealing with Gajeel, and only gave Noah and the others a show of "hand-made iron balls".

Half an hour later, a group of people arrived in the secluded valley of Tielu Ridge.

Although Iron Dragon Medalicana has been missing for hundreds of years, the domineering aura unique to the dragon race still exists in the valley.

Without Dolan leading the way, Gajeel easily arrived at the dragon's lair, which was hidden by magic.

He could smell the familiar scent.

But the "father" who raised him was nowhere to be found...

Gajeel turned around in disappointment and bumped into Noah, who was coming towards him. Noah noticed that Gajeel's expression was not good and asked, "Aren't you going in to take a look?"

"No, it's just some stones."

Gajeel didn't know why he suddenly arrived in the world 400 years in the future, but it was definitely related to his adoptive father, Tetsuya.

For him, it was just a matter of sleeping and he traveled through time, but in this world, hundreds of years had actually passed. Even for powerful and long-lived magical creatures like dragons, 400 years is not a short time.

Recalling Dolan's statement that Medalicana suddenly disappeared 400 years ago, Gajeru suspects that his adoptive father may have encountered something he could not cope with.

But why send yourself 400 years into the future?

Gajeel chose to voice his doubts.

But it was clear that neither Noah, Dolan, nor Erza and Mira could answer his question. After all, even Gajeel, the "son of the dragon," didn't know what his dragon father was going to do, let alone them, who came later.

Erza, however, asked curiously, "Gajeel, why did the Iron Dragon teach you the [Iron Dragon Slayer] magic?"

"The idea that dragons teach humans to'slay dragons' seems illogical no matter how you look at it."

Gajeel was stunned. Indeed, why would Metaricana teach him Dragon Slayer Magic? Isn't this magic very dangerous for dragons?

Noah speculated, "I once read in a book that some dragons were very hostile towards humans. Perhaps the Iron Dragon wanted Gajeel to have the ability to protect himself."

"They might also want to help Gajeel fight against the hostile dragons once he grows up."

"But whatever the reason, Iron Dragon should want Gajeel to become stronger."

Noah patted Gajeel on the shoulder, "So, for your dragon father's sake, you little weakling still have to train."

Who are you calling a weakling! Don't you know how wild I am?!

Noah's words of comfort made Gajeel grateful, but Noah's label of "weakling" made Gajeel very unhappy.

Unfortunately, he couldn't be truly wild. Gajeel only thought the words above in his mind. He knew very well that he couldn't beat any of the other four people present.

It's really frustrating. Gajeel now finally knows what it feels like to be bullied by him when he's the Phantom Lord.

After lingering in the valley for a while, the travelers returned to the Magic Market at the foot of Ironforge Ridge by the same route.

Back at Dolan's shop, Dolan agreed to help Noah upgrade the explosive gloves, but because Erza's equipment needed to be repaired first, he told Noah to come back in a month to pick up the explosive gloves.

Noah didn't think much of it, because he had brought Gajeel, his "ancestor." To express his gratitude, Dolan waived the fees for Noah and Erza. It was a good thing that they didn't have to spend money, and a month would pass quickly anyway.

"Oh, right, Gajeel."

"I've devised a method to make you stronger, would you like to hear it?"

Noah's smile seemed harmless, but Gajeel always felt something was off. However, Noah was the guild's "mentor," so he should be very good at guiding others. He was probably just overthinking it.
