"In the last days of Rome, wealth and power were the only thoughts on the minds of the Empire's rulers. But what about the good citizens of Rome? What were they doing? Did they rise up and burn their bras and chariots?
No, they chose to waste their lives away; they became lazy, while evil people destroyed their world. In your own lives, everyone may encounter similar situations. The question is, will you leave your footprints in history? Or will your footprints be covered by those with greater power?"
In a university classroom, Professor Fain was giving a history lecture.
Clark sat below, feeling as if he were on pins and needles.
Professor Fain was the first teacher he met after entering Metropolis University, and also the first professor to extend an olive branch to him, attempting to recruit him as an assistant.
This left him with a very good impression of Professor Fain.
The reason he came to attend Professor Fain's lecture was to take the opportunity to ask him some questions.
Finally, when class was dismissed, Clark took advantage of the professor packing his things, walked over to him in a few steps, and asked, "Professor, may I ask you some questions?"
"What?"
Professor Fain turned his head and looked at Clark, "Clark, your recent absenteeism rate is a bit high."
"I know, I'm sorry, Professor. I've encountered some special circumstances recently. I want to ask you a question."
"What?"
"Do you know about vampires?"
"Vampires?"
Professor Fain's gaze became somewhat complex, "A creature that appears in folklore around the world; it's more like a close symptom of rabies. Clark, are you trying to research the topic of vampires?"
"No, I just suspect that vampires might actually exist."
Clark said to Professor Fain.
Earlier, he had received the Star Scepter that Eric gave him; there was also another letter from Eric in the package.
In the letter, Eric told him to be extremely careful of vampires.
Although he was very confused by Eric's warning, Clark still prepared to use the clues Eric gave him to investigate.
"Clark, there are no such things as vampires in this world."
Professor Fain said to him seriously.
"But—"
Clark hesitated for a moment and said, "My friend once told me that he personally witnessed such a creature. Maybe there are things in this world that we don't know about."
"Is that so?"
Professor Fain nodded, "Humans are always constantly pursuing the mysteries that do not belong to their side, and while they may get hurt, they will also constantly explore the truth. Regarding the vampires you mentioned, perhaps—"
He smiled slightly at Clark, "You can ask your old friend, Lex Luthor, about Project 1138. Perhaps he will tell you some truth."
"Lex?"
Hearing Professor Fain mention Lex Luthor, Clark was greatly surprised.
Just as he was about to press for more information, Professor Fain turned and left.
Watching Professor Fain's retreating figure, a hint of solemnity appeared in Clark's eyes.
He suddenly realized that Professor Fain, in front of him, was probably not an ordinary professor either.
After leaving Metropolis University, Clark immediately rushed to Lex's residence in Metropolis.
After entering Luthor's apartment and finding Lex, Clark went straight to him and asked, "Lex, what is Project 1138?"
Faced with Clark's direct question, Lex was stunned for a moment.
"Sorry, I've never heard that name."
"You know, Lex, now my brother is suspected of being a murderer. I have to know what's going on!"
Clark grabbed Lex's sleeve with an agitated tone.
Upon hearing Clark mention Eric, Lex's expression changed slightly.
"Eric, you say?"
After a moment of daze, Lex led Clark into his office.
As he pushed open the office door, he said, "Six years ago, a girl named Buffy Sand was trapped in a cave in Smallville for several days."
Clark nodded, "I know, I saw that report at the time."
"In fact, for the sake of impact, some things were not reported."
Lex said to him.
"Such as?"
Facing Clark's questioning, Lex turned to face him and said, "For example, LuthorCorp was responsible for the rescue work at the time. After we sent that girl to the hospital, we found some abnormal characteristics there."
"Lex, stop beating around the bush. So what exactly happened? What did you find?"
Clark asked anxiously.
"Meteorites."
Lex said directly, "Meteorites melted into the water, creating some infected stalactites, which then infected some animals growing there—vampire bats?"
"So, Eric was indeed right? He encountered vampires?"
"This isn't anything abnormal, it's just a disease. A researcher at LuthorCorp was bitten and quickly gained abnormal stamina and strength, and he couldn't tolerate sunlight, and grew long teeth."
Lex calmly told Clark, "Also, they have a great desire for cannibalism."
"What happened next?"
Clark continued to ask him.
"I don't know what happened next."
"What?"
Clark was somewhat puzzled by Lex's words.
"A few months ago, that bitten researcher disappeared, and all the serums and experimental materials were looted. All valuable data and materials from the entire laboratory vanished."
Lex told Clark as such.
Clark didn't completely believe what Lex said.
After all these years of interaction, Clark already knew that Lex had been hiding many things from him.
Their relationship was no longer as mutually trusting as it appeared on the surface.
"Lex, Eric is now suspected of being the murderer in the case. Perhaps if you can provide enough evidence, we can help Eric clear his name."
"Sorry, Clark."
Lex gave Clark an apologetic look, "Although I really want to help, I can't produce any evidence. I will assign the best lawyer to defend Eric, provided I know where he is. Clark, do you know Eric's whereabouts?"
"I—"
Clark hesitated for a moment, then shook his head, "I don't know."
After leaving Lex's residence, Clark didn't stop, quickly rushing to Metropolis University.
No matter what, he would find the real culprit behind it all!
Late at night, Gotham.
An empty alley.
Eric, clad in a black cloak, jumped to the ground along the gray-white wall covered by shadows.
A shadow in front of him was grabbed by him.
With emotionless eyes, Eric asked the trembling shadow, "I know you are a vampire. Tell me, who is your superior? What are you vampires of the Blood Red Moon plotting?"
The thin vampire in front of him was one Eric had tracked for a long time in Gotham before discovering him.
"Adam Smith, I know you are an old vampire. You have been mingling in Gotham's human society. I know everything about you, so don't try to hide anything from me."
As Eric spoke, he lifted the other's body and slammed him hard against the wall.
As the bricks behind him shattered from the impact, Eric asked him expressionlessly.
"Elder Mary is dead. Now all vampires are fighting for territory. I… I really don't know who is plotting anything. Sir, please let me go. I haven't harmed any humans."
The thin Adam pleaded with Eric.
"Is that so? For your kind, my principle is generally to kill rather than make a mistake."
As he spoke, Eric's eyes were about to emit a strong light, directly blasting the other party to death.
"You'd best not kill him, otherwise it will be trouble for both of us."
A voice came from the entrance of the alley.
Eric looked back and saw Batman standing in the shadows, watching him.
"Although I hate trouble, I generally don't mind trouble when it involves things related to me."
Eric frowned, looking at Batman bathed in the pitch-black night.
"I heard about what happened to you in Metropolis."
Batman stepped out of the shadows, with complex light in his eyes, and said to Eric, "What happened to you has nothing to do with the guy in your hand. I investigated him; he's just a vampire who enjoys the human world."
"I never knew Batman had such leisure."
Eric's lips curled into a slight smile as he put down the vampire in his hand.
Allowing the other party to fall to the ground, Eric turned to face Batman, "I always thought you didn't interact much with the mystical side."
"I'm not very familiar with the mystical side, but I do know some friends."
Batman's attitude towards Eric was gentler than last time. He glanced at the other party, who was clutching his throat and gasping for air on the ground, and said directly to Eric, "Where did your old friends, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and Supergirl go?"
"I can't contact them now!"
Batman said to Eric, "Then you must have had contact with them."
"More or less."
After drawing the other party's blood in front of Batman, Eric threw the groaning vampire onto the ground.
"If I were you, I'd be careful of those three, especially Supergirl and Green Lantern."
After saying this, Eric turned and prepared to leave.
Before leaving, he turned his head and glanced at his spine, "Also, if I were you, I wouldn't be wandering around Gotham in a tight suit with a broken back. Next time, if the Batman symbol appears in the sky again, ignore it. The Bat is almost dead, let him rest in peace. This time, we part peacefully; consider it my mercy to you!"
Boom!
After speaking, he flew into the sky with a boom, immediately disappearing from sight.
Staring at Eric's disappearing shadow in the sky, Batman's eyes narrowed.
After Eric returned to Metropolis from Gotham, he walked towards the Justice Society Headquarters.
Along a deserted, secluded road late at night, he found a little girl squatting by the roadside.
The thin girl with short black hair and purple eyes squatted on the ground, staring blankly ahead.
Seeing Eric walk over, she immediately ran up to him and handed him a piece of paper.
"Sir, have you seen this person?"
The somewhat thin girl ran up to Eric and asked.
Eric looked down at the person in the drawing, then shook his head.
"I don't know him."
The person in the drawing looked like a boy somewhat similar to the girl.
Although it was hand-drawn, the drawing skill was good; at least the main features were depicted.
After answering the little girl, he turned to leave.
But upon sensing the aura emanating from her, he couldn't help but use his x-ray vision to examine her body structure.
After observing, Eric's face showed a slightly surprised expression.
Not an ordinary person?
The other party's body structure was clearly different from that of an ordinary person.
And many places showed special distinctiveness.
Eric put away the expression on his face and asked her, "What is your brother's name? And yours?"
"My brother's name is Zan, and I am Jena."
The girl said her and her brother's names, then sadly added, "I used to be able to sense him, but now I can't. I'm very scared because my brother and I have never been separated."
"I see."
Eric nodded; he had roughly determined the identity of the girl in front of him.
The Wonder Twins, future superheroes of the Justice League.
They came from the planet Exxor and gained superpowers for some reason.
Brother Zan's ability was to transform into water, including ice and steam, and he could also extend ice blades from his hands.
Sister Jena's superpower was to transform into animals, including mythical creatures.
Furthermore, when the siblings touched each other, they could enhance their superpowers and also had telepathy.
With many thoughts flashing through his mind, Eric asked her with an unchanging expression, "Where do you live now?"
"Live?"
Seemingly not expecting Eric to ask this question, Jena paused for a moment before replying, "We've been wandering. I don't have a place to live now."
Eric nodded, "Come with me, I can help you find your brother."
