Chapter 147 - Chapter 147: Resurrection of the Witch

"Witch?"

Eric looked at the book in Clark's hand and asked him, "When did you start researching witch culture?"

Clark shook the book about medieval European witch hunts in his hand and said, "To be honest, I'm not very interested in the sensational culture of witches. I still prefer the Witcher series, not the witches like the Salem witches, but the monster hunters written by Mr. Andre Sparkworthsky. Google Search Reading."

"Then why are you still researching this? Are you just bored?"

Eric asked him with a frown.

"I'm helping Lana look up information. I don't know why she's recently become very interested in witch culture."

At the school locker, after Clark put the book away, he said to Eric, "Especially information about 17th-century French witches. She's trying to find something in it."

"Did she tell you this?"

Eric continued to ask him.

"No, she didn't. Actually, I offered to help her, and the information Lana wanted to find was just a guess of mine."

After locking the locker, Clark smiled at Eric, "Anyway, I have plenty of free time."

"Witches are usually associated with Black Magic."

Eric warned him, "Clark, your steel body cannot withstand magic attacks, so for your safety, you'd best not touch those dangerous things."

"Black Magic?"

Clark nodded, silent for a few seconds, then said thoughtfully, "Eric, do you know the origin of magic?"

"Why do you ask?"

"Because—"

Clark looked at the increasing crowd in the corridor and said, "I once saw someone use Black Magic. The power of that force was so strong that I feel if I were caught off guard, I might not be able to handle it, so now I want to understand more."

"Magic is a power borrowed from the outside world. As long as it's borrowed, there will be a day when it must be repaid, along with interest."

Eric tidied up his locker and turned to leave.

"So it's best to put away your curiosity, Clark."

Looking at Eric's departing back, Clark's expression was somewhat complex. →

After school, Clark went to find Lana, planning to talk to her about the witch literature he had found.

But unexpectedly, Lana had already taken leave and gone home, which made him feel a bit dejected.

At the Talon Club, Lana, whom Clark was thinking about, was flipping through a thick ancient book in her hand.

The ancient book, made of gray parchment, exuded an attractive yet daunting aura.

"Is this Lady Solu's spellbook?"

Stroking the book's cover, Lana fell into deep thought.

After purchasing this book online, Lana had become completely engrossed.

As she flipped through the spell symbols recorded in the book, Lana's brow furrowed tighter and tighter. She kept feeling that she had seen this kind of thing somewhere before.

Was it a memory error?

Or had she really seen it somewhere?

Flipping to a page in the very center of the book, a blood-stained talisman appeared.

Lana reached out and stroked the talisman, which was stained red with blood, and suddenly felt a shiver run through her body.

A powerful and vast energy flowed up her arm and into her body.

The flames in the fireplace "whooshed" and surged upwards.

The originally weak flames turned into a large fire that almost reached the top of the fireplace.

A purple light flashed in Lana's eyes.

After this energy completely permeated her body, Lana stood up and stretched her neck.

The purple light in her eyes became even more dazzling.

After a slight smile appeared at the corner of her mouth, she extended her arm to examine it.

"This is my new body. Hmm, unexpectedly good."

"Lana!"

Niel, who heard the sound of the fireplace flames surging, immediately pushed open the door and walked in from outside.

"Are you alright?"

Seeing the flames in the fireplace burning normally, Niel turned her gaze to Lana, who was standing to the side.

"I'm fine."

Lana, after checking herself, smiled even more broadly.

"I've never been this good!"

Kent Farm.

Eric was fully engrossed in the beef stew in front of him.

For beef stew, which he rarely got to taste, he generally adhered to the principle of not wasting anything.

In addition, his recent search for Lex had left him somewhat mentally exhausted, so he could take a good rest while enjoying the delicious food.

Regarding his inability to find Lex's whereabouts, Eric guessed it was still due to the plane's flight path.

The plane definitely didn't fly on its normal route. He even suspected the plane had flown to the waters near the South China Sea.

"Clark, are you researching mysticism lately?"

Jonathan asked Clark, who was dealing with his dinner.

"Something like that, but my interest in mysticism is only a passing fad."

Clark put down his cutlery and replied to his father.

"Your father used to be interested in mysticism too. His favorite article was Margaret Oliphant's 'The Open Door in the Ruins.' I often read it to him."

Martha smiled and said to Clark, "For a while, he was sick in the hospital and had no entertainment, so I would read this article to your father as he lay in bed."

"Is it famous?"

Eric asked from the side.

"It's not a very famous article, but it's a rather old-fashioned ghost story, with no brain-teasing reading experience or obvious showmanship."

Martha took a bite of salad and said to Eric, "But Jonathan just loves it. Whenever he has time, he asks me to read it to him."

"Cough, cough."

Perhaps feeling a bit embarrassed discussing this in front of his sons, Jonathan coughed and changed the subject.

"Actually, I've been reading Eric's book lately."

"Really?"

Jonathan's words were quickly exposed by his wife, "As soon as you lie in bed and pick up Eric's book, you fall asleep very quickly."

"Only occasionally, you can't generalize it as a definite event, Martha."

Jonathan said to his wife with slight dissatisfaction.

"I'm honored that my book can serve as a sleep aid for Dad."

Eric said slowly from the side.

Jonathan felt he couldn't explain himself clearly.

Clark, listening to his parents discuss whether Eric's book was a sleep aid, focused his attention on the book in front of him, the one about witch culture.

Soon, a page of information on it caught his attention.

The 17th-century French witch hunt, at its peak, even affected the famous Countess Solu.

It was said that Countess Solu used Black Magic and sorcery to harm more than a dozen innocent maids and established a witch society, openly spreading blasphemous teachings.

The outcome was that Countess Solu and two other women accused of being witches were sent to the stake together.

At the end of the article, Clark saw the Countess's family crest.

It looked like he had seen it somewhere before.

That's right!

It's that kryptonite necklace!

Clark suddenly remembered that the kryptonite necklace Lana wore had the exact same design as Countess Solu's family crest.

Could it be that Lana is connected to Countess Solu?

Clark looked at the pattern in the book and fell into deep thought.

At the Talon Club, Lana, who had already become another person, had read all the books in the room and had a general understanding of modern society.

Lana's soul had transformed into the owner of the spellbook she had previously read—Countess Elizabeth Solu.

Having established a blood pact using the spellbook, she finally resurrected through this magic book.

After taking over Lana's body, the first thing she thought of was resurrecting her two other companions from the witch society.

The next day.

Chloe was called to the Talon Club.

Accompanying her was Chloe's cousin, Louise.

"Hey, Lana, let me introduce you to my cousin, Louise Lane. She's currently staying at my place for a news interview."

Chloe introduced her cousin to Lana.

"To be precise, I was lured by a news hot topic to stay in this small town. Then, after hearing Chloe tell more strange stories, especially about the town's news, I felt it was a wise choice to stay."

Louise smiled at Lana.

"What are you busy researching?"

After the introductions, Chloe curiously asked Lana.

"Uh, some scientific research."

Lana, whose soul had been replaced by Countess Solu, explained.

"Uh-huh, from which century?"

Looking at the various ancient alchemy instruments displayed in Lana's room, Chloe teased.

"The seventeenth century."

Lana smiled at the two and said, "Although a bit outdated, I think you'll like it."

Chloe and Louise exchanged glances, seeing surprise in each other's eyes.

"I can't stand the smell in here. I'll go downstairs and wait for you."

Chloe, unable to bear the smell in the room, prepared to go downstairs.

But she was quickly called back by Lana.

"Hey, wait a moment."

Lana called out to Chloe, who was about to leave.

"I've prepared some red wine. I was planning to use it for a party in a few days. Do you want to try some first?"

Lana said, taking out a bottle of red wine from the cabinet, along with three glasses.

Without waiting for Chloe and Louise to refuse, she poured the red wine into the glasses.

As soon as Louise saw the red wine, she couldn't move.

"Of course, I'd love to."

Louise took the wine glass from Lana's hand.

Although a bit reluctant, seeing her cousin already starting to taste it, Chloe couldn't just leave. She had to return and take the wine glass from Lana's hand.

"No matter how time changes, old friends are never forgotten!"

Lana raised her wine glass with a smile, "Cheers!"

"Cheers!"

Chloe and Louise, unsuspecting, raised their glasses and drank the "red wine" in one gulp.

After drinking the red wine, both of them immediately felt their vision darken, and their consciousness rapidly receded from their minds.

It was as if another soul had emerged from their bodies.

"Welcome to the 21st century!"
