Just as Yeva had said, Niky had long grown accustomed to the sensation of a hot bullet tearing into his flesh. He drifted in and out of consciousness, dreaming of his sister and then plunging back into darkness the next moment. Nightmares like that no longer scared him. He observed everything calmly until sensation slowly returned to his body.
Niky woke several hours later, feeling stiffness in his shoulder. He turned his head and found Yuzu asleep while sitting upright beside him. One of his hands was still intertwined with hers, explaining why he woke with a cold numbness in his fingers.
His expression softened when he noticed the dried tear trails along her cheeks. Carefully, he adjusted his position to sit with his back against the headboard. Then he reached up to gently brush away the remnants of her tears.
"Engh…"
The small movement disturbed Yuzu's sleep. Her eyelids fluttered a few times before her beautiful irises came fully into view.
"Sir!"
