Olivia stepped inside with an expression carved into the perfect mask of motherly concern.
"Jack, sweetheart?"
He didn't look up. "What do you want, Mom?"
She exhaled dramatically as if she were the victim. "I came to check on you. You haven't eaten anything since morning."
When he did not say anything, Olivia walked closer and sat beside him, leaving just enough space to not invade but enough to show she was there.
Her voice softened. "I know you are hurting."
