Serena's POV
I didn't understand any of what was happening.
I sat there, staring at them, my thoughts tangled—what threat? What was really happening with the man who kidnapped me… and with Lucien?
Something dangerous was clearly unfolding. I could feel it pressing in from all sides. I glanced at the angel seated before me, unease curling in my chest. What kind of danger would be grave enough to bring an angel into our home?
My head throbbed.
I let out a quiet sigh. Everything was becoming too much—too fast, too heavy. I didn't want to think about any of it right now. Not Asriel. Not Lucien. Not threats or realms or destinies.
I slowly pushed my chair back and stood.
I'd lost my appetite.
"Serena," Ciel called from behind me, concern threading his voice. "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine," I replied coldly, without turning back.
Then I left the dining hall, my footsteps carrying me away before he could say anything else. I went straight to the gardens, the open air calling to me.
