Chapter 6 - Anticipations

"Mrs. Hill said you were particularly interested in her." Danzel stated, raising an eyebrow at Raymond.

After dismissing Mrs. Hill, he immediately summoned Raymond to his office. Raymond was currently sitting in the chair opposite him while Liam stood at the side. Danzel and Liam appeared serious, but Raymond had no clue about it.

"Yeah. She passed the test quite impressively. In fact, she was the only one who passed my test. She's a decent woman, I can say." he replied.

Danzel's face hardened. "She can pretend, you know?"

"Well, I don't think so." Raymond shrugged.

As a playboy, he had experience with women. Having encountered countless women and spent time with them, he considered himself an excellent judge of character.

"What if you're wrong?" Danzel asked.

"Then I must say she's an excellent actor." he replied, meeting Danzel's gaze. "But why don't you want her as your secretary? She haven't even started working yet."

Danzel looked away, clenching his jaw. Raymond glanced at Liam, but he also averted his gaze. He frowned at their reactions, sensing something was off.

"Is there something I don't know?" he asked, returning his eyes to Danzel, who still had a stoic face.

He narrowed his eyes at him. But there was silence, as no one said anything. Raymond was Danzel's childhood best friend. Whereas all the other employees feared him and his anger, he was the only exception. He even teased him whenever he got the chance. Danzel would never mention the bar incident to him. Otherwise, Raymond would make his life a living hell by teasing him. After all, not every day did a girl manage to kiss the ruthless Danzel Knight without his consent. It would have been the talk of the country if this news were ever to be exposed to the public. He was still furious that she had managed it somehow. Just one moment of distraction, and she grabbed the opportunity. He became furious whenever he thought about that incident. And she didn't stop there. She showed up again as his personal secretary. The audacity of that woman. He would make her pay for her actions.

"You can leave." he replied after a while.

"You can tell me if there's something."

"There's nothing. Leave."

Raymond sighed and gave a nod. He knew Danzel better than to push it any further. He stood up and cast a glance at Liam before turning and walking towards the door.

Danzel shifted in his chair, while Liam let out a sigh. However, Raymond stopped when he reached the door and looked back over his shoulder.

"If you don't want her, then transfer her to my department. I would love to have her as my personal secretary." he said mischievously.

"Get out." Danzel yelled through gritted teeth.

Raymond chuckled before leaving the office. The room fell silent again.

"Do a background check on that woman." Danzel instructed.

"Yes, sir." Liam replied immediately. He hesitated for a moment before asking, "Are you going to fire her?"

"No.." Danzel leaned back in his chair. "If she's here for a purpose, which I believe she is, then I want to know who sent her here."

He paused for a moment, deep in thought.

"She is surely working for someone. Stay careful and make sure she doesn't get her hands on any important things in the office."

"Okay, sir." Liam said and left the office as Danzel flicked his hand, dismissing him.

He then stood up and walked towards the floor-to-ceiling glass window. He stood in front of the glass and looked outside, putting his hands in his pockets.

"Let's see how long you'll survive, redhead." he muttered under his breath.

.....

"Darzel Knight! You are Danzel Knight's assistant secretary. Oh my god!" Einar screamed.

Coral covered her ears with her hands. "What's there to scream about?"

Mrs. Hill dismissed her for the day after she came out of Mr. Knight's office. She told her to come the next day, which would be the first day of her work officially. After returning to her apartment, she told Einar everything, and the girl was surprised to know who her boss was.

"Girl, you know who he is?"

"He's my boss." Coral said, rolling her eyes.

Einar shook her head at her non-excitement.

"He is the richest man in our country. Not only that, he holds the title of the world's richest businessman under thirty. He dominates the business world and he is only twenty-eight." She explained.

Coral knew that Knight Corporation was one of the biggest companies in the world, but apart from that, she didn't know anything about them.

"He and his family are royalty, Coral. People kiss the very ground they walk on." Einar added.

"This is too much." Coral scrunched her nose.

She couldn't understand why people would behave like that. According to her, money wasn't everything.

"How does he look? Is he handsome?" Einar asked with excitement.

Coral tried to remember his face. The first thing that struck her was how dominating and terrifying he looked. "Hmm... yes. He looks good, but..."

"Just good?" Einar cut her off. "Not extremely handsome? Or just average?"

"No, he is anything but average. His aura is so dominating. Why don't you check on social media?" She suggested.

"There's no photos of him on social media. He leads a private life. There are some pics of him from when he was young, around ten years old, but no recent pics. No one knows how he looks now except the ones who have seen him personally."

"Oh." Coral nodded.

"You know he's unmarried. Women from the upper-class are just crazy about him." Einar added.

"He might have a girlfriend." Coral shrugged.

"Yeah, he might have. His girlfriend is so lucky." She exclaimed.

"Einar.." Coral glared at her.

She had no interest in her rich boss's personal life. She just wanted to do her job without facing any problems.

"Okay, okay." Einar sighed. "By the way, your salary is too good, bitch! Now I'm jealous of you." She stated with a sly smile, changing the subject.

Coral smiled. She was over the moon after finding out the amount of her salary. She knew that in big companies, employees received high salaries, but in Knight Corporation, it was really high. She wouldn't have to worry about anything.

"Hey, you can have your own apartment with this salary, you know?" Einar said.

"I haven't got any payment yet, Einar. I'll think about it later. I need to get settled at the office first."

"Yeah, tomorrow is your first day. Best of luck. Everything will be fine, don't worry." Einar encouraged her.

But Coral wasn't sure. Something was telling her that her first day wasn't going to be a good one. She hadn't begun to work yet, and her boss had given her a vibe that he didn't like her as his personal secretary. She was confused about what had happened in the office. She couldn't understand his behavior. She was nervous, as it wasn't a good sign for her. But Mrs. Hill had said there was nothing to worry about. She just hoped her first day wouldn't be the worst, even if it wouldn't be good.
