The Grand Hall was filled with the smell of blood and the sound of steel clashing against steel. But the noise of the fighting sounded too far away for Lin Rui. He didn't even look at the Chancellor on the floor, or Arkan standing next to him.
His eyes were locked on only one thing: the sharp knife Kabil held against Lian Zhi's neck, and how her face was pale with fear, as the sharp blade pressed tight against her skin.
"Let my mother go!" Kabil roared, his eyes wild as he looked at Lin Rui and Arkan. "Drop your weapons and let her walk out of here, or your precious Hua princess will die before she can take another breath!"
Lin Rui felt his body go completely still, a cold shiver go through his body. He looked at Kabil and felt a flicker of confusion. In his original manuscript, he had written Kabil to be a coward, someone who barked loudly but ran away when things got dangerous.
