"That was a very interesting response, Miss Santiago," the man beside Alana said, his voice smooth. He couldn't have been more than twenty-three, maybe younger, yet here he was at this table. I couldn't help but admire and envy him a little.

I turned to him, my mind racing. 'What would I say now? Why did they need me? Did anyone ever really need me?' No. I shook off the doubts creeping in. I wouldn't let past events dictate my future.
