"Yes," he said finally. "That's… okay."
Olaedo nodded, accepting it without pushing further. Her gaze drifted to the table.
"Well, since we're done talking, and there are perfectly good late night snacks just sitting here…" She reached for a plate without hesitation, already picking out her favorites. "I'm going to treat myself to some well deserved junk food."
She gave him a polite nod, purely polite. "Good night," she said casually, already walking away, happily munching as she disappeared down the hall.
She never once looked back.
She didn't see the way Chibuzor's expression fell, the way something soft, something unguarded, flickered across his face and faded.
He stayed there long after she was gone.
Five minutes.
Ten.
Twenty.
Only when the silence grew too loud did he exhale.
"At least we're on good terms now," he murmured.
But the words tasted thin. Not nearly as reassuring as he wished they were.
