Saying the truth out loud had almost made it real.
And it wasn't real… right?
As long as he didn't speak it, didn't acknowledge it, he could pretend it wasn't there. Pretend he wasn't afraid of what would happen if he told her everything.
Chibuzor leaned back in his chair, his fingers tapping restlessly against the armrest. He was trapped in a mental tug of war, Should I tell her? Should I not? The questions pulled him apart, back and forth, until his mind felt like a spinning top about to topple over.
He glanced at the reports on his desk, then at the wall clock. Still time before he needed to leave for supervision. Maybe, by then, he would figure something out. Or at least lie to himself convincingly enough to pick a direction and stick with it.
When the time finally came to check the construction site, he found himself hesitating at the door.
The site was close to Anozie Holdings.
Too close.
