Adrian sat quietly, his head lowered on his plate as he fitted the food around.
He was aware of Alexander's watchful eyes toward him from across the table, but he wasn't going to look up at him.
Ever since he finished the reports in Alexander's study, the boss hasn't stopped looking at him in that worshipful, devoted, whipped manner.
He didn't like it.
It made him want to believe this new Alexander. The Alexander he had always wanted, the man he had always wished he had. But, no sane person would love a person who purposely leaves them on a dangerous street. A person who humiliates them at the slightest mistake. A person who counts every single help they rendered faster than the clock ticked.
He wouldn't be that fool again. He couldn't fool hindered twice.
He quietly sighed and ate his food. He wanted to stand and retire for the night, but he knew Alexander would make a scene if he didn't touch his food.
