Lilly didn't feel her legs as she left Mark's office. The door clicked softly behind her. Her heart was still trying to catch up. The sound of his clipped, distant, cold voice kept echoing in her head. "You think this is a joke, Miss Levine? That you can just send things like that to the entire office and not face consequences?"
She hadn't even been able to speak. She had tried to explain, to tell him she didn't send that email, that she didn't even know what he was talking about, but clearly he didn't believe her.
He looked at her the way he once looked at Luna, distant, disappointed, cautious.
The floor outside his office was too quiet when she stepped back out. Hima was standing by her desk, eyes wide, hand frozen halfway to her keyboard. She'd heard everything.
"Lilly…"
