The blur of a voice rang across her ears. All she could hear were muffled sounds, close enough to brush her hearing yet somehow too far away to comprehend. It took her a moment to realize it wasn't her eyes refusing to open—there was a cloth tied tightly over them, stubborn and unrelenting as it stole her sight.
Evangeline's heart sank coldly to the bottom of her stomach when she remembered what had happened before she'd lost consciousness.
She had met Adrian... and suddenly someone had blocked her sight. A strange scent had washed over her, lulling her into sleep so quickly she couldn't even fight it.
Only then did Eva try to move her hands, feeling the rough rope binding her wrists behind her back.
"Can't you be any quicker?! Look, because of your tardiness she woke up!" someone snapped.
Evangeline shuddered.

Before she could try to discern who he was speaking to, a harsh burst of light hit her as the cloth was yanked away from her eyes.
