Days later, the hotelier invited everyone to one of his properties — a seaside resort still under renovation. He was proud, showing off each suite with the enthusiasm of a child.
"This will be the presidential suite," he announced, arms wide. "You can almost smell the money."
Mei Yan laughed. "Or the paint. You dragged us here for fumes?"
He grinned, unbothered. "One day, when you're rich, you'll understand."
While they joked, Li Xue wandered to the balcony, watching the waves crash against the shore. For a moment, she felt free. But then Zhao Liang's voice broke through.
"You look like you're planning an escape."
She turned, startled. His eyes held hers, cold yet searching.
