When Andrei Hayes, a modern linguistics student, steals a strange coin from a shop, he doesn't expect to wake up in the body of Lutz Fischer—a small-time swindler from Feysac who just hanged himself over a debt to a gang.

In a fog-shrouded harbor where order is dead and gangsters rule, two desperate men die—and a new creature is born. Now, Andrei is indentured to the Harbor Vipers, a brutal gang led by a Beyonder who sees him as a disposable tool. 

Trapped in the decaying port city of Indaw Harbor, Andrei must use Lutz's street cunning and his own academic mind to navigate a world of brutal Beyonders and horrors.
