"What did you say happened again?" Sabe yelled, dropping his wine glass onto the center table in his office. The glass rolled off the polished surface and shattered on the floor, red wine splashing across the marble like spilled blood. His voice shook with barely contained rage, each word heavy and sharp. "I couldn't hear you correctly, so I need you to repeat yourself. Again."
The man kneeling before him trembled violently. Blood matted his hair and ran down his swollen face, soaking the collar of his already torn shirt. He kept his eyes glued to the floor, shoulders quivering, too terrified to even breathe too loudly.
"Are you deaf?" Sabe barked, his tone a poisonous mix of curiosity and fury. "Do you need some more beating before you speak?!"
"E....Everyone else had been killed," the man finally stammered, his voice breaking. His fingers dug into the floor as he pinched his trembling nails against the marble. "I was spared only to deliver the message to you."
