Chapter 298 - Chapter 298: Batman

An endless stream of dinosaurs continued to pour from the yellowish-green vortex projected by the Omni-Wave Projector.

Under the command of those primitive men, they charged into the Baxter Building, frantically destroying everything in sight.

That wasn't even the worst of it. The real trouble had started two hours ago when the young girl, Lunella, returned with the Omni-Wave Projector. The Baxter Building's maximum security system had automatically triggered, placing the entire structure under total lockdown. Short of Reed opening it himself, the building was virtually impossible to breach by force.

As for Reed... after sticking his head into the vortex of the Omni-Wave Projector, he had apparently taken a direct hit from a dinosaur and had been unconscious ever since. Even as Ben Grimm carried him over his shoulder, jostling him constantly, there wasn't the slightest sign of him waking up.

They couldn't send out a distress signal, they couldn't leave the building, and Lunella had been snatched away by that tribe of primitives.

Since it was night, the few researchers who worked in the Baxter Building had long since gone home. Aside from Ben Grimm, Susan Storm, Johnny Storm, and the unconscious Reed, there was no one else left to form a team and fight back against the prehistoric onslaught.

The threats ranged from small, agile predators like Velociraptors, Utahraptors, and Deinonychus, to behemoths that far surpassed the size of any modern elephant, such as Giganotosaurus and Carcharodontosaurus.

Ben Grimm groaned inwardly. Currently, the Baxter Building's interior defenses offered no weapons more lethal than standard handguns—and due to the suddenness of the attack, the four of them only had two pistols between them.

Unless the NYPD scrambled attack helicopters to level the Baxter Building, Ben couldn't see any other way for his group to make it out alive.

Snap!

The massive, blood-red maw of a dinosaur lunged behind Ben Grimm, its teeth colliding with a sharp, sickening crack.

With Reed draped over his shoulder, Ben's stamina was fading fast. Realizing he was cornered, he used the last of his strength to shove Reed toward the others, then spun around and fired several shots at the dinosaur pursuing them.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The handgun rounds struck the Carcharodontosaurus, but they failed to even pierce its thick, leathery hide.

Setting his jaw in grim determination, Ben charged toward the dinosaurs, hoping to buy Susan, Johnny, and Reed a chance to survive.

Whoosh!

In addition to the Carcharodontosaurus, seven or eight other dinosaurs of varying sizes swarmed forward. Their rank, predatory breath hit Ben in a wave, making his head swim.

As the dinosaurs closed in on Ben, Johnny and Susan couldn't help but scream:

"Ben!"

They didn't want to sacrifice him, but they knew that if they hesitated, all four of them would die.

Susan's eyes welled with tears as she quickly hauled Reed off the floor. Together with Johnny, they supported him between them and fled.

After a few steps, Susan Storm couldn't resist looking back at Ben, who looked every bit the man prepared to give his life. Her eyes were filled with sorrow.

But in the next second, that sorrow was replaced by sheer shock.

Susan saw the leading Carcharodontosaurus—the largest of the pack—snap its jaws down at Ben. However, not only did it miss, but the massive beast was suddenly jerked backward a significant distance.

"ROAR!"

Behind the dinosaurs, a green giant over three meters tall appeared. His muscles were like gnarled tree roots, bulging with every movement as he gripped the Carcharodontosaurus by the tail.

With a thunderous roar, the thirteen-meter-long predator was swung horizontally into the air. The Hulk used the massive dinosaur as a makeshift club, swinging it in a wide arc to smash into the other dinosaurs.

"Who is that?" Confusion flashed through Susan Storm's mind. Watching the green giant stand alone against dozens of ferocious dinosaurs, a name flashed through her brain: "The Hulk?!"

The Hulk's existence was virtually unknown to the general public, but to top-tier scientists like Reed Richards, he was no secret.

By extension, Susan and the others had heard snippets of information about the Hulk, but they had never seen him in person—until today.

The Hulk alone held back dozens of dinosaurs. With bursts of titanic strength, he sent the ten-meter-long behemoths flying one after another.

But dinosaurs were still pouring out of the Omni-Wave Projector. As soon as Hulk knocked one aside, two or three more immediately took its place.

"Hulk! You have to destroy that projector!" Johnny yelled at the top of his lungs.

"HULK!" the giant bellowed back. He was being swarmed by the sheer volume of prehistoric beasts, their toothy maws constantly snapping and tearing at his skin.

The dinosaurs were no match for the Hulk, but their numbers were becoming a nuisance... especially since Susan, Johnny, and Reed weren't using this opening to escape, but were instead standing there shouting at him!

Hulk's chest heaved. These people were too close; he couldn't unleash his full strength without catching them in the crossfire.

"SMASH!" Having no time for complex strategy, the Hulk angrily grabbed a Velociraptor by the neck, pinned it to the floor, and stomped down with all his might.

BOOM!

The floor of the Baxter Building let out a deafening groan as the concrete and steel reinforcement bars within the slab snapped in a rapid-fire sequence.

Hulk then grabbed a Giganotosaurus and slammed it violently into the ground.

This time, the Hulk exerted even more force—well over eighty tons. Not only was the floor instantly pulverized, but the resulting shockwave and gale-force winds knocked the nearby Susan and the others to the ground.

CRASH!

The entire Baxter Building seemed to shudder under the force of that strike.

The floor wasn't just breached; a large section of the level had been smashed directly into the floor below by the Hulk. A gaping hole over twenty meters wide opened up, sending the Hulk and the surrounding dinosaurs plummeting into the lower level.

The massive hole prevented the dinosaurs from the rear from following. Susan Storm breathed a small sigh of relief and hurriedly called out toward Ben Grimm:

"Ben! Are you okay?"

Ben Grimm was not okay. Although the Hulk had intercepted the dinosaur that nearly bit him, and Ben had intended to run, the sheer wind pressure and tremors from the Hulk's battle had made it nearly impossible for him to keep his footing, leaving him rooted to the spot.

"Retreat to the roof!" Ben shouted back to Susan.

Flap-flap!

Before Susan could respond, the sound of leathery wings beating the air cut through the chaos.

Four or five giant pterosaurs, with wingspans nearly ten meters wide, swooped through the air. They bypassed the hole Hulk had made and dived straight toward Susan and the others.

"It's over!" Johnny grit his teeth, raising his pistol in a desperate attempt to aim at a pterosaur.

Click!

The shot missed. The brief moment taken to aim had cost them their last chance to run.

As the creatures—resembling Quetzalcoatlus—lunged at them, Susan Storm's heart tightened. But then, another green-scaled "dinosaur," slightly smaller and far stranger, stepped in front of them.

Unlike the dinosaurs controlled by the primitives, this strange green creature stood with its back to them, body leaning forward. And perched upon its back was a dark figure clad in pitch-black armor, wearing a wide, sweeping cape.
