Chapter 150 - Chapter 150: An Attempt Toward the Future at Homeworld

When it comes to exploiting loopholes.

There are two types of highly specialized people in the world: lawyers and East Asians.

Some things are better left unexamined—the more you think about them, the more cost-effective certain maneuvers seem!

The prerequisite was...

Staring at Wang Hu standing ramrod straight before him, General Li felt a surge of possessing something rare and valuable.

"Good, good, good."

Thinking of this delightful prospect, even someone as reserved as General Li couldn't help but reveal a subtle expression.

"..."

However, General Li's genuine smile made both Wang Hu and Li Chengzhi tense up internally.

As General Li's biological son, Li Chengzhi knew this well.

Whenever his father showed such a smile, someone was bound to face misfortune—it was just unclear who it would be this time.

Though Wang Hu didn't know General Li's character well, he understood that when one man smiled at another like that...

It was subtly unsettling!

Completely unaware of how the two men before him perceived his expression, General Li's smile deepened further.

Mentally refining the plan he had named "the cuckoo's nest," he looked at Wang Hu and slowly asked,

"Does Homeworld impose any special restrictions on those who pledge allegiance to become members of the super civilization?"

"I mean, aside from the limitation on freely traveling between worlds."

"For instance, reviving a civilization isn't something one ship can accomplish alone, right? Can the territory and the people on it be brought along?"

"Additionally, since you were chosen by the so-called core, do you have any influence over that core?"

"Is the core controlling you, or are you controlling the core?"

"Hmm?" Upon hearing General Li's questions, Wang Hu instantly grasped what the other was thinking.

"It needs to be tested."

With a faint smile, Wang Hu replied softly.

This was another purpose behind his revealing his identity—what exactly was being revived in the revival of the super civilization?

Since the core had placed the choice in his hands, wouldn't it be possible for the East Asian civilization to become the plum that takes the place of the peach, supplanting the super civilization?

After all, from the final outcome, the East Asian civilization, having fully embraced this so-called super civilization, would continue and thrive...

Mother and son?

"Heh heh heh." At that moment, the two men, sharing a tacit understanding, chuckled in unison.

"Then let's go take a look at Homeworld first." General Li walked to his desk, picked up the telephone, and spoke a few words.

Soon, two individuals entered the room.

"Lieutenant Zhang Hong of the Third Training Battalion, New Star Garrison, reporting for duty!"

"Lieutenant He Juntu of the Base Logistics Department, reporting for duty!"

Zhang Hong, who had previously accompanied the Eighth Fleet's advance team to deliver the Gundam, and another short-haired man who appeared somewhat frail, entered the office.

Looking at the two who had reported in, General Li introduced them to Wang Hu.

"You know Zhang Hong. This is He Juntu, who is assigned to our logistics department—a highly skilled technical expert."

"He has a solid foundation in various cutting-edge military equipment and technological issues."

"Zhang Hong and He Juntu?"

Wang Hu wasn't surprised by Zhang Hong's appearance; in fact, ever since Zhang Hong was transferred to Wang Hu's unit...

He had previously speculated about this fellow's origins and background.

A guy who constantly claims to like tentacles should be quite famous within the military, right?

But when he was at Nova Fortress, Wang Hu had made indirect inquiries, only to find this person seemed to have sprouted from the ground out of nowhere!

If Zhang Hong was also here to monitor him, then he was being far too conspicuous.

If he wasn't here to monitor him, his appearance was far too coincidental.

Now that the other party had appeared here, his origins and purpose became much easier to explain.

As for the other person, He Juntu, Wang Hu looked him up and down. He didn't judge by appearances, since anyone who could appear here wouldn't be an easy mark!

"General Li, you flatter me." He Juntu wore a humble smile on his face.

"I'm just someone who knows a little about everything, yet doesn't fully understand anything."

After modestly deferring to General Li, he turned to Wang Hu, slightly bowing his head with a smile.

"So this is the East Asian Qilin, Captain Wang Hu who was assimilated from Homeworld into this world?"

"Truly, seeing once is better than hearing a hundred times. You have an imposing presence and dignified appearance."

"You're too kind, too kind." One doesn't hit a smiling face - Wang Hu similarly piled on polite smiles.

As the saying goes, the dog that bites doesn't bark. No wonder he could be entrusted with important tasks by General Li.

Was this man called He Juntu the experimental subject prepared to swear allegiance to Homeworld?

"General Li, are these two the colleagues who will accompany me to Homeworld for testing?"

Having thought this, Wang Hu turned to ask General Li, confirming once again if there were only these two people.

"Hmm." Nodding, General Li suddenly looked at his son. "Chengzhi will also go along."

"Oh?" Upon hearing this, Wang Hu's eyes shifted, his gaze falling on his good friend.

Was it because he didn't trust him, or to gain the trust of higher-ups?

Or perhaps because General Li, limited by his position, couldn't go personally.

So he had inserted another most trusted person?

Of course, it could also be that as a father, he wanted to pave the way for his son.

"Here?" Never had his mind worked faster than now. After multiple considerations, Wang Hu pointed at the office.

"Not here." Upon hearing this, General Li denied it. No matter how cordial the situation appeared to be.

What they were about to do next was make contact with a civilization capable of crossing worlds. Before establishing sufficient mutual trust, certain precautions were necessary!

"Follow me." Taking the lead, General Li walked toward the door ahead of them.

The journey passed in silence, the several people following behind General Li.

They took an internal base shuttle, then transferred to an elevator before arriving at a spacious underground area of unknown depth.

From when General Li first conceived the idea to their arrival here, only about half an hour had passed.

But in this absolutely not long time, numerous devices had already been set up along the edges of the open space.

And even more equipment was being moved into the area. Moreover, Wang Hu had reason to believe that the area before his eyes was definitely not as simple as it appeared.

Perhaps behind the seemingly solid metal walls surrounding them, numerous security forces were already hidden!

"How do we get to Homeworld?" Standing beside some equipment with his hands behind his back, General Li asked.

"Very simple." Wang Hu glanced at various devices, both familiar and unfamiliar, and replied.

"As long as I send a request to the Homeworld in my mind."

"That's quite simple."

Slightly surprised that the method to reach the Homeworld was so straightforward, General Li closed his eyes as if contemplating something.

After a moment, he reopened his eyes and looked at his son, his gaze swirling with complex thoughts.

Meeting his father's gaze, Li Chengzhi nodded firmly without hesitation.

Seeing this, General Li took a deep breath.

Standing beside the two, Wang Hu watched everything unfold without speaking. At this moment, any further words would be useless.

Because the door about to open would soon reveal whether it would bring fortune or disaster to the East Asian Alliance.

It was easy to imagine the immense pressure General Li was bearing at this moment.

What if he was a fraud? What if General Li, due to a single wrong decision, brought about immeasurable losses?

No one could bear the title of "historical sinner"!

When the fate of the nation was at stake, no amount of caution was excessive.

Even with authorization from higher-ups, General Li's courage to proceed was likely due to his son's strong guarantee.

Thank you, Li Chengzhi. Wang Hu felt fortunate to have chosen him as the intermediary.

"Let's begin." After standing like a stone statue for a long time, until one-third of the empty space was filled with equipment and no one was bringing in anything more, General Li, now wearing protective gear, spoke with a resolute look in his eyes.

"Alright." Smiling, Wang Hu walked to the center of the open area.

"I'm going to open the door now."

He turned around to give a heads-up, not wanting anyone to become overly tense and cause misunderstandings when the door opened.

"Proceed." For intelligent people, no further explanation was needed. General Li gave Wang Hu an approving look.

With that response, Wang Hu stood silently in the center. Soon, a massive golden light gate slowly materialized before him.

Silent and seamless, as if it had existed there since time immemorial.

"Is this the gate to the Homeworld?"

No matter how many times they had heard about it or how much mental preparation they had made, when a scene that existed only in fantasies or science fiction appeared before their very eyes, everyone present gasped in awe.

They stared at the golden light gate, which was no thicker than gauze yet stretched to the full height of the underground space.

"Energy readings are normal!"

"Radiation fluctuations are normal!"

"Video recording is functioning normally!"

"Gravity environment shows no anomalies!"

"No objects or gases detected leaking from the light gate!"

A series of reports echoed one after another. The carefully selected scientists of the East Asian Alliance threw themselves wholeheartedly into analyzing the light gate's mechanisms.

Yet, after Wang Hu stood quietly for half an hour, the scientists had exhausted every conceivable method and still failed to extract any useful information.

"Reporting to General Li, the time is too short. We cannot draw any scientific conclusions," the lead scientist finally admitted helplessly.

"Expected." General Li waved his hand dismissively, unsurprised. He watched Wang Hu, bathed in golden light as he stood before the gate.

"Proceed," he said slowly to the three-person team led by Li Chengzhi.

"I'm going, Father."

Receiving the departure order, Li Chengzhi for the first time in his life addressed the general not by his rank but as "father" in public.

"Hmm." With a slow nod, General Li watched as his son followed Wang Hu through the light gate.

When the four figures completely vanished beyond the light gate, a large contingent of armed soldiers and heavy armored combat vehicles surged out from doors that abruptly opened in the surrounding walls.

Simultaneously, as the area filled with vigilant soldiers, the entire base above ground activated its combat readiness.

Dozens of East Asian Alliance's domestically developed Mobile Suits, along with aircraft lining the runways ready for immediate takeoff, stood poised for action.

Further away, four fully-equipped army groups waited on high alert, weapons at the ready.

Thus, matters concerning the nation's fate.

Even though the high-ranking officials from the cabinet and Ministry of War weren't physically present, their attention never strayed from this place.

Throughout the East Asian Alliance, everyone qualified to know about this matter simultaneously paused their work and waited silently.

Crisis - danger containing opportunity.

But seizing the opportunity to withstand the danger - that was what truly needed to be done.
