Theo's arms instantly locked around his torso, her fingers digging into his shirt. Zeke revved the bike so hard the ground vibrated beneath them.
The first gunshot cracked through the air.
"Zeke--!"
"I know!" he snapped, yanking the bike sharply to the left as bullets hissed past their ears.
The black cars surged behind them, their engines snarling, and their lights slicing through the dusk.
Theo felt the wind claw at her face as Zeke bent low and accelerated so violently her breath was stolen right out of her lungs.
BANG! BANG! BANG!!
Gunfire rained around them, and Zeke tilted the bike nearly sideways to dodge a spray of silver bullets, both of them missing the asphalt by inches. Her shout died in her throat at the suddenness of it, and she clung even tighter.
"Zeke, they're—"
"Don't look back," he growled, "Just hold me."
The bike screamed forward, but two cars swerved to cut them off ahead.
"Oh come on," Zeke snarled.
