Chapter 4 - Nemesis

Everything seemed to pause like a film. Everything felt freaky within Saia's mind. She felt tingles and sparkles fly out, but she couldn't really feel or understand what was happening. But she knew there was something here, and it had returned.

It was a similar feeling she felt that day, like something pressing so hard within one's chest that they are paralyzed. Saia went on to search for Ethan. She needed to find him. He was related to this when she saw him being held by a dark figure. She navigated the world bit by bit. Everything felt like it was slowly deteriorating.

"What happened to everyone?" she thought.

She noticed something within her mind spark in a particular direction —a light, the dark, the colors—leading her in a single direction.

'Was it just my imagination?' she thought.

The halls screamed loudly, the doors, and tables, all violently vibrating. Saia thought to herself, 'Nothing here is good. Nothing here is right. There's just pain and hatred.'

She noticed a glimmer, "Could this be him?"

She approached a glimmer, her surroundings dwindling in pressure like waves calming after a storm, and the only thing that was left was a slow breeze.

Saia was then quickly grabbed by powerful claws grasping her neck and she was thrown to the floor. The lights around her head sparkle and splash as she struggles against the unrelenting force.

"It's you, aren't it?" Her mind spoke.

"You, you are here again, you girl. Why do you have to pester? What do you gain from this?" it calmly spoke through her ears, the light surrounding her head flash back.

"Where is he?" What have you done with Ethan?"

The shadow we figure turns and Saia can see Ethan hanging looking downward. Why do you care so much? The shadow asked.

The light around Saia's head sparkles and flashes violently to push the shadow away. However, the shadow was able to leave a mark on her neck slightly scratched from its grip instinctually. Saia pushed herself towards the darkness. The shadow reflected and dodged every sparkle of light and energy that flowed from within her.

"Not again," The shadow said.

The shadow then at the perfect moment grasped her head and took her face down. The shadow dragged her face across the misty ground. The sound of pain can be heard with each inch scraped against it. The shadow drew closer to her. "Why do you decide to get in the way again? Why should anyone like you?" the shadow questioned.

Saia then rocked back, pressing herself against the shadow, sending it flying close to Ethan streaks of light being through the darkness, almost illuminating the entire room.

"I don't feel anything good from you!"

"What is good for you? I chase continuously, endlessly when he digs it himself," the shadow raises one palm.

She then focused on herself, not truly understanding what she could do, however she knew what she wanted to do. Her eyes begin to glow. The shadowy figure recoiled and observed Saia closely. Saia then drew her arms towards the shadow and cast beams of energy across her mind resonated with each angle, striking the shadow this time. She then rushed it, her palms glowing, striking the shadow. Tremendously beating the shadow down from what it would be, Its torso to its jaw to its cheek.

"I don't care what you are, you won't be doing anything". Her cross began to glow deeply.

The shadows permanently in the surrounding area slowly began to fade after each pummeling the shadow within Saia's mind spoke, "There's absolutely nothing you can change; I'll always be here, I'll always return."

With every final pummel the light returned little by little, the shadow faded once again. The sparks within Saia overcame the room, permitting everything until it was white. All the colors had splashed so much that the brightness had covered everything and then once in a silent moment, Saia noticed a young boy standing looking over something and after that split second the whole school had returned to normal.

Saia found herself still on the floor, where she was beating the shadow. Ethan 's lifeless body flung itself onto Saia. Everyone in the cafeteria was staring. The girl squad's jaws were all dropped. They all look at each other in confirmation that Ethan is truly the one. Conrad looked over, his eyes widened along with his whole crew looking right at him. Saia was in the heat now with Ethan on top of her frozen, and then suddenly Ethan started showing signs of waking up at the very instance Saia launched him so hard he flew into the ceiling, leaving his silhouette behind as she teleported outside.

Later Ethan finally recovered from his unconscious state. It was like exactly before he thought he did feel extremely embarrassed about earlier. His mind raced, "I can't believe that just happened in front of the whole school. What am I supposed to do now?"

However, the attack from earlier still resonated with him. Something had brought him down as his eyes softened, and his body quickly relaxed. He was just there one shoulder against a pillar perplexing his thoughts, but he can't really describe them well so he's just jittering his foot. The light tapping could be heard from a bit away since the surrounding vicinity was quiet. Ethan's eyes began to hone in on the strange feeling he's getting.

The SSSSS squad showed up all of them with mischievous smiles obviously, Saia was not with them probably because they would be teasing her Ethan thought.

"So, you have a thing for Saia, huh Ethan?" interrogates Sam.

"Oh yea, we know," Sada joined in.

The other girls stood back like policemen to ensure that Ethan would not escape from the arrest.

Ethan raised his shoulders and did his best not to overreact to the question. "What're you talking about?"

The girls drew closer to him, eyes piercing sharper against him to the point where Ethan can feel the blade spewing his heart out.

"Not the answer," Scarlett replied, growing ever closer to him.

Ethan wrapped himself further, squinting against himself and raising his jaw to his cheek hiding the flush.

Suddenly a loud slam can be heard from across the outdoor pass. Saia stood there, her brow buried deep, like an enraged wolf. The girls all smiled and giggled as they pointed towards Ethan.

"Leave him alone now, or else!" Saia signed instantaneously, her claws were beginning to show with each passing movement.

The girls after this quickly dispersed from the scene, leaving the boy to live another day. Ethan slowly lowered his shoulders, and he did his best not to look over at Saia for the entire situation.

His brain sighed deeply.

"Thanks," Ethan mumbled.

Saia stood across from him, leaning onto a nearby pillar.

"It's okay," she signed alongside a thumbs up.

There was an awkward pause between the two, Ethan twiddled his hands, and Saia twirled her hair in the moment. However, Saia then stopped leaning against the pillar and approached him closely.

"Something weird has been going on," She signed, as she looked around.

"What had just happened, I mean earlier, that was like before wasn't it?" Ethan locked his eyes onto her hands.

Both of their minds flashed towards the previous days in the same synchronized second.

"Something is after you dude," Saia signed.

"I don't know what it is either," Ethan replied, quickly now steering his eyes elsewhere.

"And we can do some crazy things; we didn't even get to talk about this yet huh?"

Saia nodded. "It feels like something's changed entirely," her eyes steered away from him as well.

"I know what you mean," Ethan responded.

"I think after all that's happened, we need to really find out what's happening to us. Something is coming after you, like a nemesis, and the other thing with what I guess is the military or something." Saia's eyes raced along her thoughts as she explained to Ethan.

"NO, not the government!" Ethan stopped her, acting as if he knew something she didn't.

Saia paused.

"You're more concerned about that than the scary darkness thing?" Her eyes judged him.

"GRAAAAAA! WE NEVER LEFT" the SSSSS had shown up out of thin air to break the moment. Ethan and Saia both jumped as soon as they heard the shouting. In the distance, from within the shadows there it was. Observing the two alongside the others, prowling like a lion.
