The Academy ran on strict schedules.
"Kill scores are suspended," Baldwin announced. Her voice boomed from the sky, amplified by hidden speakers.
"Your objective has changed. Survival is now the only objective."
The ground began to rumble. It wasn't an earthquake. It was footsteps. Thousands of footsteps.
"The containment units have been opened," Baldwin continued. "Level 5 Purge Beasts have been released into the zone. This is not a test! I repeat, this is not a test!"
Daniel stood up on the branch. He looked out over the canopy of the forest. In the distance, he saw some trees falling. Something massive was moving through the jungle, knocking down almost everything in its path. And it wasn't alone.
He saw dust clouds rising from the east, the west, and the north. They were being herded.
"This isn't a test," Daniel realized. "This is a purge."
