Chapter 37 - Chapter 14: Big Dummy

Time flies, and another half a month has passed.

Today, Aunt Pei Wen is giving a lecture on the principles of pharmacology and medicine to the young medical girls of the Demon Clan, and Hui Yue is sitting below the stage, taking notes seriously.

After one class, Hui Yue's notebook is filled to the brim with notes.

"If any of you have other questions, feel free to ask me in private, you're most welcome to," Aunt Pei Wen said before leaving with the book.

Hui Yue hurriedly packed her things and said to Song Ling, "I have some questions to ask Aunt Pei Wen, you don't have to wait for me, go back first!"

Song Ling looked puzzled, slowly tidying up her things, watching Hui Yue run off into the distance.

Hui Yue tiptoed to the door of Aunt Pei Wen's residence and gently knocked on the door.

"Come in," Aunt Pei Wen said.

Hui Yue walked in small steps to Aunt Pei Wen, shyly greeted, "Hello, Aunt Pei Wen."

Aunt Pei Wen turned to see her, smiled gently, and asked, "Hui Yue, is there something you need?"

Hui Yue slowly walked in front of Aunt Pei Wen, who motioned for her to sit on the stool in front.

Sitting down, Hui Yue asked cautiously, "Aunt Pei Wen, I have a question this time that I want to ask you."

"What is it?" Aunt Pei Wen looked at her with gentle eyes.

"I want to ask, if someone from the Demon Clan has their Demon Marrow extracted, how can it be healed?" Hui Yue asked, looking up.

Aunt Pei Wen pretended to be angry, "You little girl, not paying attention in class. I remember I mentioned either using the Ancient Immortal Grass—Sha Zhi, or swapping another person's Demon Marrow with that person."

"Then... I want to ask if there's no one from the Demon Clan to swap their Demon Marrow, would using the Divine Marrow of the Heavenly Clan be equally effective?" Hui Yue asked curiously.

Aunt Pei Wen thought for a moment, then slowly spoke, "It would be. Although the Demon Clan and the Heavenly Clan are mortal enemies, in ancient times, the Demon Clan and the Heavenly Clan shared the same roots. We were actually exiled by the Heavenly Clan before becoming the Demon Clan, so using the Heavenly Clan's Divine Marrow is possible for the Demon Clan."

"Then for the Heavenly Clan to use the Demon Clan's Demon Marrow follows the same principle?" Hui Yue asked curiously.

Aunt Pei Wen nodded, "Yes."

Hui Yue nodded in understanding, her bright eyes smiling at Aunt Pei Wen, continuing, "Aunt Pei Wen, I have another question."

"Since you're here, go ahead and ask!" Aunt Pei Wen said with a smile, looking at the mischievous little girl in front of her.

"Aunt Pei Wen, if a person goes blind, is there any way to let them see again?" Hui Yue asked.

"Blind? If it's a mortal, they can recover using medicinal herbs with cultivation within a few days. If it's someone from the Divine Clan, they need Divine Medicine supplemented with Divine Power, and the recovery time depends on the injury," Aunt Pei Wen replied.

Hui Yue nodded thoughtfully, "What if the person from the Divine Clan was blinded because their Divine Marrow was extracted?"

Aunt Pei Wen couldn't help but knit her brows in concern, though puzzled, she replied truthfully, "If blindness results from the extraction of Divine Marrow, permanent recovery requires the previously mentioned method. However, if temporary eyesight for a few days is desired, there is a way."

"What way?" Hui Yue asked, suppressing her inner excitement and curiosity.

She was finally asking about the key point!

"You need to use the blue othershore flower from across the Netherworld River as the medicinal guide, supplemented by Divine Clan blood, and extend the fire with cultivation to make the 'Divine Continuation Pill' to temporarily restore eyesight to the Divine Clan," Aunt Pei Wen said, sighing immediately afterward, "Such a dangerous and challenging task isn't worth it, and the eyesight only lasts for three days."

Hui Yue nodded lightly, smiling, "I understand, thank you, Aunt Pei Wen!"

"Mm," Pei Wen nodded softly.

Hui Yue stood up and bowed to Aunt Pei Wen, saying, "If there's nothing else, I'll take my leave, Aunt Pei Wen. Goodbye!"

As Hui Yue turned to leave, Aunt Pei Wen added, "The Netherworld River is within the Underworld, the domain of the Heavenly Clan. For us from the Demon Clan, setting foot there means almost certain death. Do not go unless absolutely necessary."

Hui Yue curled her lips and smiled, "I understand, thank you, Aunt Pei Wen, for your guidance." Then she gently left Aunt Pei Wen's residence.

Aunt Pei Wen turned her gaze toward the diminishing figure, a strong wave of unease rising in her heart. She remembered the bounty notice posted by the Demon Lord not long ago.

Taking advantage of the solitude, Hui Yue quietly arrived at the small hut, where Yu Bai was cutting something. The crisp sound of the chopping board and knife clashing reached Hui Yue's ears.

"What are you doing?" Hui Yue asked curiously.

"Clatter!" With a crash, everything on the chopping board fell to the ground. Yu Bai recoiled, taking in a sharp breath, "That hurts!"

Hui Yue hurriedly ran to Yu Bai, taking his hand to examine it seriously, "Oh no! You've cut your hand. Hurry over, let me bandage it for you."

Yu Bai was pulled to the side while Hui Yue took out some ointment and gauze, carefully tending to Yu Bai's wound, scolding as she bandaged, "You're blind, what are you cutting things for? What if you cut your hand?"

Yu Bai laughed awkwardly, embarrassed, "I wanted to prepare something nice for you before you returned, but I can't seem to do anything right."

Hui Yue glanced at the chopping board, knife, and vegetables that had fallen to the ground, her brow furrowing into a frown, "What were you planning to make? Just these vegetables?"

Yu Bai laughed sheepishly, "I can't see and couldn't find any ingredients, so I thought I could use the vegetables you brought before to make something..."

Hui Yue pouted angrily, scolding, "I'm a lady of the Heavenly Clan, I don't care for mere vegetables! But you, if you cut your hand off and become disabled, I won't be able to heal you! You're not doing anything well like this, you'd better rest well on the side! Don't make trouble for me!"

Hui Yue, known for her straightforwardness, was upset because Yu Bai wasn't taking good care of himself, and she spoke without thinking, blurting everything out. But once the words were out, she realized they might have been a bit harsh. She felt guilty and regretful for not thinking before speaking.

Yu Bai, feeling hurt, lowered his lashes, his eyes trembling, looking very sad.

Seeing this, Hui Yue felt extremely sad, but words, once spoken, are like water that's been spilled. She's silent as she quickly bandages Yu Bai's wound, a complex sense of unspeakable emotion welling up, with things she wanted to say but couldn't express.

Yu Bai, after a moment of silence, softly apologized, "Xiao Yue, I'm sorry, it's my fault, I didn't think things through. But please don't be angry, I'm not worth it, I promise I won't cause trouble for you in the future."

His apology made Hui Yue feel even worse, her eyes stinging with emotion.

Choking back tears, Hui Yue hoarsely said, "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have been harsh with you, I spoke without thinking..." After a brief pause, she continued to explain, "You're not a burden to me, it's just... I can't stand seeing you hurt. Seeing you hurt makes me feel awful, almost as if it's me who's hurt..."

"Really? I did something wrong this time too. I shouldn't have done something to make you worry, I promise I won't do it again in the future..." Yu Bai's gloomy expression turned bright, and he said with a smile, "I just like seeing Xiao Yue happy, I hope Xiao Yue can be happy every day."

For the first time in her life, Hui Yue encountered someone willing to do something gladly just to make her happy. She felt deeply moved but also furious at seeing him hurt.

Perhaps this was what people meant by caring.

She couldn't stand seeing the person before her hurt and didn't want him to be injured.

Remembering what Yu Bai said about strangers touching each other's faces needing to get married, she inexplicably reached out and gently placed her hand on his as-white-as-jade face.

"Fool," Hui Yue lightly scolded him, the reproach laced with a maiden's shyness.

Feeling Hui Yue's warm hand touch his face, Yu Bai's heart filled with joy, his lips curling into a smile.

He gently placed his hand, as soft as gossamer, over hers. Although his eyes couldn't see, Hui Yue saw water-like gentleness in them, his voice so tender that it seemed capable of melting hearts, "Your hands are so warm..."

Hui Yue's face burned as if it had been set alight, the blush extending from her ears to her neck. She pulled back her hand, embarrassed, and lightly scolded again, "Fool!" Then she ran away like the wind!
