Yao Tao was beyond excited. The boss lady hadn't come back for several holidays before, so this New Year's visit was indeed surprising, but more than anything she was happy because she could finally show the boss lady the results of her efforts in taking care of the homestay.
She had tended the flowers and plants in the yard very well. The seasonal vegetables had already been planted, with some ready to eat soon and others ready by spring.
"Boss lady, there aren't many cured meats and sausages left hanging from the ceiling. I've ordered a year pig from the village chief, so we'll smoke some cured meats and sausages after we slaughter it."
"The corn hanging from the ceiling is mostly for decoration, but I've replaced the batch of chili peppers since a guest bought some dried ones last time."
