Chapter 59 - Black Phantom - 59 - Author's Note

Who would've thought so much time would have passed from that initial idea to finally piecing together the entire book.

Let me start by explaining the settings for this story.

Actually, the character concept is mainly inspired by a single line from Manhattan Cafe's storyline, the part about the successor.

'That Uma Musume took pride in her near-ultimate speed, and apparently looked a lot like Manhattan Cafe.'

And that's how the protagonist was born—a ghostly Sunday Serenity with the appearance of the early-design Cafe.

And now, this dark-haired Uma Musume, who existed only in the author's head, has charged onto the racetrack without a second word.

Yep, the kind you just can't stop.

So here, the author will briefly outline what's planned.

It's pretty straightforward: slice-of-life segments followed by race arcs, then back to slice-of-life.

The daily life parts will mainly introduce characters appearing in the upcoming races.

As for what happens in the race arcs…

Well, that's where we go beyond the characters from the Uma Musume game.

Because the competition rules change in Volume 1, both new and old characters will basically all make an appearance. New characters go without saying—folks like the Golden Generation, for instance.

As for older characters, think Mr. C.B., the former Triple Crown winner, or Narita Brian after she becomes a Triple Crown winner.

Besides them, there are also characters from the Cinderella Gray manga.

Moonlight Lunacy, Obey Your Master, Michelle My Baby, Tony Bianca, and so on.

For characters that appear in the manga or game, I'll use their official settings. The rest—the Uma Musume not yet included in official media—well…

Triple Crown winner St. Lite, Triple Crown winner Shinzan, Triple Tiara winner Mejiro Ramonu.

And the old veterans of the track.

Tosho Boy, Ten Point, Green Grass, etc.

Since there are no official settings for these either, I'll boldly take the liberty to design their appearances and personalities myself.

Later on, there'll be transfer students like Deep Impact, Orfevre, and Tracen Academy challengers such as Almond Eye, among others.

Of course, all the characters mentioned above will have their looks and personalities made up by me—unless official designs come out before I get to writing them.

(T/N: This is before Orfevre's Release)

As you can see, there will be no shortage of races.

So the author is already regretting why I ever decided to go with a realistic version of the races sobs.

What's wrong with those awesome, ridiculously cool skills that sound super impressive when shouted? Or why not just use a system?

Wouldn't it be easier to just list the characters' stats, like UF or A+?

'Sunday Serenity, why don't you come with your own system?!'

No help for it—I made this mess, so I've got to see it through, even if it's through tears.

So, clearly, the author isn't following the game's path. There are no golden skills to recover stamina, no disruption or early-speed tactics.

The racing scenes will be pretty much like those in the Oguri Cap manga, with at most an added 'zone' concept.

Actually, after saying all this, I just want to prepare you readers a little and give a glimpse of the upcoming plot developments.

If you ask why, the answer is: everyone can compete.

T/N: Since this is just an extra long authors note but to not mess up my flow, this will be a separate chap but I will upload an extra chap to make up for it.

T/N: While I am an inexperienced Translator, I have a Patreon! While it may seem empty as of now, webnovel will get 3 Chapters Every Day, and advanced chapters will be uploaded on Patreon.

It may not seem worth it now, but maybe in the future. Who knows!
