In a flash, Remington appeared in front of them panting like he ran a mile. He gripped her shoulders with both arms, "Are you crazy?! How can you just vanish like that?! Aimes and I almost tore down the library looking for you!"
They did what?!
"I got lost! Well, not exactly. You see the thing is-"
Theon placed a hand on Remi's wrist and that's when Remington realized there was a person next to her.
"Why are you with her?" He furrowed his brows in confusion because he recognized Theon immediately.
"Hands. Off." And Theon recognized him as well.
Anwen's gaze darted between the two, did they know each other? Where's Aimes by the way?
Speaking of the devil, Aimes appeared next to Remington and threw a fist at Theon with speed faster than Anwen could register but as if Theon had predicted it, he ducked and leapt to safety in a flash.
Seriously, a vampire's speed was something Anwen could never get used to.
Without thinking, Anwen got in-between the both of them, arms spread wide as she shielded Theon from her hot headed brother.
"Stop it! Don't hurt him!"
"Don't hurt him? Seriously do you know what-"
"Yes! He saved me from a corrupted vampire and brought me out of the forest! Theon's a nice person!"
Aimes felt his eye twitch at Anwen's words, the monster behind her was anything but nice. As if daunting his thoughts, Theon had a smug look on his face as he slipped his hands into his pockets.
"Calm down Aimes…you wouldn't want to get your father involved will you?" Remington stepped in, placing a hand on Aimee's shoulder.
That seemed to work because Aimes's bloodshot eyes cooled down and the situation became less tense.
"What forest are you talking about? We left you at the library. Didn't I tell you not to wander about? It's been five whole hours since the librarian reported you missing!"
Aimes barked without pause and that seemed to diminish all courage within Anwen, she felt small compared to Aimes.
I knew he would get upset…but isn't this a bit much? Why are my eyes starting to sting?
"Would you let her explain herself before turning all beastly on her?" Theon stepped closer, although still behind her. "You're scaring her. Anwen doesn't like being scared"
His gaze hardened at the last sentence, whips of shadows formed at his feet, threatening to strike any moment.
Theon's aura would make any lowly creature cower in fear, but his opponent was Aimes Valdemar. An egotistical pureblooded vampire from a first generational lineage that packs quite the punch.
Aimes Valdemar was scared of nobody.
"How do you know what she likes or doesn't?" He sneered, "I told you I would cave a hole in your chest the next time we meet. I intend to keep that promise-"
"Wait, what do you mean by forest? Didn't we leave you in the library?"
Aimes shot death glares at Remington for cutting him off but it would be a lie to say he wasn't curious as well on how she ended up in the forest behind the library.
None of the guards stationed outside saw her leave the building. The librarian as well, who didn't take up to an hour preparing snacks for Anwen.
Finally! Someone willing to hear me out.
Anwen cast a side eye at Aimes, feeling grateful for Remi's impulsiveness. "While waiting for the library lady, I accidentally touched something that made the floor open…" she demonstrated.
"...I really didn't mean to fall, there were lots of papers so I slipped. I tried holding something but all I could get a hold of was a book…and it ended up falling with me" Heat flamed her cheeks at her explanation, it felt embarrassing but she went on anyways.
"I fell for a very long time, and that's how I ended up in the forest. I think that it must've been a teleportation portal between the forest and the library, hidden from sight. Anyways, Theon found me injured and tired. It was a good thing because minutes later, a corrupted vampire approached us and wanted to eat me. But Theon hit him once with thunder and he died instantly"
"Not—before telling him twice to back away! The vampire attacked us first! That's why he did that, right Theon? He didn't wish to kill anyone"
It's a good thing I added that part, Theon won't be held accountable for murder.
Anwen casted a glance at Theon, a smile on her lips as though she succeeded in protecting him the way he protected her.
At least that's what Theon thought with the way she shielded him from her brother and cousin, she also left out the part where he struck her with an arrow.
Myrrh danced in his eyes. Truly, I've never met anyone like her. She's really cute. I want to see her again…but him.
His eyes narrowed when the thought of Aimes being her adopted brother crossed his mind, he should've gone to the orphanage she was and adopted her as his sister.
Not Aimes Valdemar. His childhood rival.
"I'm glad you're okay Anne" Remington pulled Anwen into a hug with a breath of relief, "You must've been scared"
Since Aimes and Theon were enemies, it was only natural for Remington to pick his cousin's side. Him and Theon didn't have anything against each other.
Yet, watching Remington get close to Anwen irked Theon and his fingers twitched. Funny, he didn't know why he was acting this way, he only just met this girl.
Getting in between them would make Aimes even more angry and actually carry out his promise. So Theon decided to hold it in and looked away.
Not that he would be able to beat me.
"Aimes…don't get angry at Theon, he didn't do anything wrong okay? I-I was in the wrong, I should have meddled around an unfamiliar place, I'm sorry"
If it wasn't noticeable then, it was now. Despite the fact that they were siblings, Anwen was scared of Aimes.
Of course it would be expected since she's adopted, and Aimes can get…egostical and rude (Theon's perspective). Despite that, she shouldn't be this scared of him.
Was it because of Duke Roarke? He must've left a bad impression on her on all vampires. Although, she wasn't scared of me. She even yelled at me. Yet can't even stand up against her brother.
I bet he doesn't know about the duke being after her. He can be that unreliable.
"Let's go. Father should be at the estate by now" Aimes turned around not before sparing a wary glance at Theon, who had a look of indifference etched on his face.
Like he didn't care about anything or anyone in this world, except for himself. And that irked Aimes to the bone.
