The pressure Joe had dropped on my shoulders was enough to make my head spin. Every second that passed felt like a ticking bomb, one I didn't know how to defuse. My hands trembled as I buttoned up my maid uniform, my mind replaying Joe's instructions over and over again like a cursed mantra.
"Find a way to give your mother the key to the dungeon and a note with instructions. Open her cell and the others' by midnight. Cause chaos, just enough for us to slip away unnoticed."
It sounded so simple when he said it, his voice calm and commanding. But the reality was far from it. One mistake, one wrong move, and we'd all be dead.
