Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Small Gacha and Preparing to Starting School

"I guess having the TV equivalent of the Super Soldier Serum does wonders for someone in need of sleep," I said, glancing at the small clock on my desk.

4:57 AM

And I'm not even a bit sleepy—not fazed at all.

{In Progress:

-[Roy Mustang – 26% → 27%]}

The fifth time transmuting the nail started to yield even less progress on Roy's template. Makes sense: the more I unlock, the more of Roy's knowledge of alchemy surfaces in my mind, and just transmuting a nail won't help me develop my craft. To grow, I need to transmute larger and more complex things.

I studied the small blue cube in my hand. One of the insights from the last 4% increase was how to change colors in transmutation by modifying my circles—essentially producing any hue I want. That must be how Edward tricked someone into believing they had gold when it was just ordinary stone, altered to glow yellow like the real thing.

"Status!"

I reviewed my status—especially Roy's progress—and gave a small nod. A bit of pride welled up; every percentage that meter climbed, I became stronger.

My gaze shifted to my inventory, where the Wolf Medallion caught my attention. I clicked on it, and a small bronze card appeared with the medallion design from one of my favorite games engraved on it. It glowed bronze before materializing as the actual medallion in my hand.

A medallion with a silver wolf and red eyes dangled from a chain. I immediately put it on, feeling it heat up for a second before settling down.

A magical necklace that works as a radar for magic and monsters. Hope it works on this world's monsters! Also… it looks fucking cool, I thought, admiring it.

"Well… time to see if I can sleep a little." I stood from my desk, walked to my bed, grabbed my notebook, slipped it into my backpack, and stored it in my inventory.

Swish!

Something small brushed against my foot. I looked down and saw a crumpled piece of paper. I bent down, picked it up, and unfolded it, only to find Alexander Hamilton's crispy face staring back at me.

10 Bucks.

"Nice! …Wait, System, can't I exchange money for gacha points?" I asked, trying to recall my gacha essence. I'd been too shell-shocked earlier to think of it.

{Yes, User! You can exchange up to 100 dollars per month. Do you wish to exchange any money for Gacha Points?}

"Yes! Ten dollars!" I replied. The bill began glowing white before breaking apart into globes of light.

{10 Dollars = 10 Gacha Points}{90 Dollars remaining to exchange}

"System, roll the gacha!"

{Spin the Gacha?}

{1 Gacha – 3 GP} {10 Gacha – 30 GP}

I clicked the 1 Gacha option three times. The screen shifted, and an image of a gacha machine appeared. Three black orbs slid out, glowing before revealing three cards in front of me:

{Kunai (Naruto) ×1 – A standard, versatile hand-sized dagger with a black blade, bandaged handle, and a ring on the pommel.}

{Empty NOS Canister (Fast & Furious) ×1 – An empty NOS canister from Dominic Toretto's Dodge Charger.}

{Jessica Jones's Cracked Starkphone (Marvel/MCU Jessica Jones) ×1 – The passwordless cell phone belonging to Jessica Jones.}

"Wow… not gonna lie, I can work with this, System," I said, summoning my new gacha items.

Now lying on my bed were: a slender phone with a cracked screen that could make any Apple fan cry, a medium blue canister with bright yellow "NOS" lettering, and a small, sharp kunai.

"Let's start with the phone." I picked it up and, just by unlocking it, I was already flabbergasted. Despite the cracks, the screen was smooth and responsive—better than most devices I'd seen. Sifting through it, I found photos of clients Jessica had been tailing, including a picture of a young blonde woman with what seemed to be a very young Kristen Ritter.

After that, I opened the Settings to check the phone's specs.

"Stark Nano Processor 3.0, RAM: 48 GB, Storage: 5 TB, Battery: Stark Micro Intra-battery, Privacy Software: Stark Guard… HOLY FUCK!" I shouted, praying no one heard me.

This phone was the most powerful on the planet. Hell, it made some computers look like hot potatoes by comparison. I reset it, quickly set it up, and—bonus—it even had a USB-C port.

This is fucking gold, but I need to focus back on the rest! I shoved my inner nerd back into its cage.

Time for the canister.It was a glorified paperweight. Well, it would've been if I didn't have alchemy. Before, I only had nails to experiment with. Now, I had more substantial material to manipulate.

I stored the canister back in my inventory, then picked up the kunai. Holding it in my right hand, I swung it lightly.

It's so sharp I can hear it cutting the air. The blade sizzled faintly as it sliced through.

Another tool for alchemy, but also a weapon. I really needed to start training when I had the time.

Thanks to Roy's template, I'd also gained Amestrian State Military basic training. Combined with the Mirakuru, it made me at least competent in combat.

I stored the kunai, then fell back onto my bed, staring at the ceiling as the weight of everything finally sank in.

I had died—killed by Rick, from Rick and Morty but the ROB version. I'd transmigrated into a fictional character in a world full of monsters and magic, with a system… and now I had powers.

I wasn't sure when I started crying, but it was a mix of grief and relief: grief for the life I lost, relief for the new one I'd gained. By the time the sun rose, I finally drifted off, sleeping like a log.

It was the best sleep of my life.

Knock! Knock!

"Landon, are you awake?" Maria called from behind the door.

I had already woken up at the sound of her footsteps before the knock. That alone kept me from believing yesterday was just a fucked-up dream. I looked at the clock on my desk.

11:30 AM.

I'd slept late. Lunch was probably ready if the smell of food wasn't lying. I stumbled out of bed, hair sticking up in every direction, and unlocked the door.

'Different dress, same necklace, and still the same cheerful-but-cautious, walking-on-eggshells vibe as yesterday' I thought as I observed Maria for a moment.

"Good morning," I greeted, which made her smile.

"Good morning, sleepyhead! Lunch is ready—come down and eat," she said. I nodded.

"Just gonna take a bath real quick, then I'll come down," I told her and headed into the bathroom.

After a quick shower, I dressed and joined them in the dining room.

"Mmm, ribs—nice!" I said, sitting down, which drew a smirk from Hector and a smile from Maria.

We started eating.

"Landon, Mary called earlier. She already finished your transfer to Mystic Falls High School. You start next Monday. It's already a bit late in the semester, but they managed to include you," Hector said.

I barely stopped the groan threatening to escape.

'Survived the hellhole of high school once, only to get sent back? ' I whined internally, longing for my 23-year-old freedom.

"Sounds good!" I told Maria, forcing a convincing smile that actually fooled her.

'Fuck… I don't even have my driver's license anymore' I complained silently, lamenting the woes of being stuck in a 14-year-old body.

After lunch, I helped Maria with the dishes and returned to my room. I was itching to experiment with the kunai and the canister. Before alchemy, I might've spent Friday afternoons studying the chemical composition of NOS canisters and their valence shells. Now? I could literally reshape matter with my mind—or eventually, at least.

I brushed some ash off the page of my latest transmutation circle.

'Note to self: find another way to draw circles, or Maria's going to think I'm smoking,'I thought, tossing the ash into the bin.

Knock! Knock!

I heard Maria again, her perfume and the sound of her ring tapping against the door clear to my enhanced senses. I shoved the canister and kunai back into my inventory before unlocking it.

"H-Hey, Landon! Since you start school Monday, what do you think of us going to buy some supplies for you?" she asked, trying to sound casual but radiating nervousness.

'Judging by my foster home memories—with parents I wouldn't trust with a cactus—I could tell Maria genuinely didn't want to overstep. She just wanted me to feel safe here.' I smiled softly .

"Sure! I'll just take a quick bath, then we can go. Is that okay with you guys?" I asked.

"Sure! We'll wait downstairs!" she said, nodding so fast I was surprised she didn't get whiplash.

Another shower later- 'alchemy apparently worked up a sweat' I mulled over what I'd learned.

'Like I thought: alchemy draws partially on the practitioner's inner energy and partially on natural energy from tectonic plates beneath the earth. Maybe a 60/40 split for complex work, less for simple stuff. Thankfully, the Mirakuru coursing through me gave me stamina to spare' I mused while scrubbing.

'2% progress. I'll need open space for more tests—and start experimenting with gaseous elements. They're volatile but promising for improving Roy's template.' I analy

After drying off, I joined Hector and Maria downstairs. Soon we were on the road.

Watching the city—the one I'd only seen on TV—I realized it was bigger than on the show. More houses, more shops, even some apartments.

We arrived at a small shopping gallery. Maria basically dragged us inside, and judging by Hector's expression, this wasn't her first spree. She brought me to a supply store, and we left with notebooks, a side backpack, and even a charger for my Starkphone. After that, Hector and I just trailed behind her as she browsed every shop.

Tug! Tug!

I felt my necklace pull and heat up.

Instantly alert, I scanned the area discreetly.

'Could be a vampire, a werewolf, or a witch. In a hotspot like this, it could be all of the above.' Slowly, the medallion cooled and stilled.

My nerves eased, though I kept a sharp eye on my surroundings. Roy's instincts guided me where to look. A few minutes later, Maria finished her shopping, and we headed back to the car.

'I wonder what was there… 'I thought, glancing back at the fading gallery.
