Chapter 55 - Chapter 53: Essence of a God

"That entire fiasco was unnecessary. The anger in your strikes is incredibly foreign to me, and I had never seen you behave in such a way before. Do you have something you want to tell me?" Kratos then said towards his firstborn, as Zelos's action really surprised him, as it was something completely out of character for the usually composed warrior.

"Where have you learned such cruelty, little brother? I have no reason to believe that you inherited it from your father, who is entirely a pocket of sunshine," Mimir then added from Kratos's side.

Mimir said this with a slight intention of teasing Kratos, as Kratos had been the one that struck the final fatal blow towards Magni, and the only cruelty that Zelos had done is the binding of Modi with Magni's fresh corpse.

"Do you want to know the price I had paid for the Yggdrasil?" Zelos then suddenly said. This question made Mimir understand immediately, not due to the reputation of the Aesirs, but due to the Yggdrasil's way of finding balance in everything, but the statement still left Atreus and Kratos confused about the situation.

"In exchange for letting me tap the unprocessed power of the World Tree, I had vowed to keep it in balance and just. Due to the countless slaughters that the Giants had experienced, the World Tree gifted me the unprocessed power that was supposed to go with the Giants but remained unused due to their premature death instead of waiting for Ragnarok. But in turn, it also gave me their anger," Zelos explained calmly.

"Specifically, the anger that they had been feeling against the Aesirs. That is why I am always going to be crueler to the Aesirs, acting as if I have a personal vendetta against them, due to the anger of the countless Giants that has been brewing inside me," Zelos then began to explain further, as he then mentioned his vow as well as the duty he had decided to uphold.

"Do you not see what kind of problem that deal has? Maybe, oh, I don't know, being enemies and offending the Aesirs that have Thor and Odin?" Mimir then immediately replied, his voice filled with concern. "Despite my insults, they are both capable of cruelty and strength that knows no bounds, adding to the other Aesirs that are also cut from the same cloth as them."

"You had been affected by your anger. I had taught you better," Kratos, still with his short words, then said towards Zelos, clearly disappointed.

"Do not worry father, despite my earlier display, I have full control of this anger. It is just that the anger has been brewing for so long it got a little out.

Adding the fact that they are sons of Thor, the murderers of the Giants, it is going to really explode. But there is no problem with my attitude regarding others.

We had fought against Baldur after all, but I remained composed, did I not?" Zelos then defended himself, as he then explained the reason why he had done this action in the first place.

Hearing his son's words, Kratos then remembered back to their fight against Baldur, and it is true that Zelos had full control over his emotions.

There were no unnecessary actions that were affected by fury or anger that he had displayed earlier.

But despite already knowing this, Kratos still could not help but say something to ensure his son's safety.

"It only takes one moment of carelessness for you to lose your life. Learn to control your fire, or it will burn you," Kratos then said with a brooding tone, which made Zelos just nod along, while Mimir just stayed silent.

"Yes father, I will learn to control the anger better," Zelos just said. But Zelos's cruelty does not really end in the binding of Modi with his dead brother's corpse.

Zelos had siphoned the corpse of Magni to reach the gates of Valhalla to slowly corrupt the entire system that Odin had done to create his soldiers for Ragnarok.

But this is all for the future, as at this early development, Zelos just established a link that would move slowly to ensure that it would not be detected by Odin himself, or others that want to preserve the balance.

Of course, that is not all that Zelos had done to the corpse of Magni. When he had placed the corpse of Magni into Modi, he had already gotten the most important part of Magni's corpse.

It was his godhood. It is what gave Magni his strength, as it was his connection to the Yggdrasil Tree.

The Essence of a God is much purer than the essence of the trolls and other monster creatures that Zelos had used to create the daemon summons that he has.

was incredibly hard to purify, but once it is completed, the unfiltered power it had is great material for someone like Kratos, who had lost his magic when Greece got destroyed.

'Don't worry father, I will make sure that you are armed and ready when Ragnarok comes,' Zelos thought to himself. He wanted to ensure that they do not need to use Surtr to destroy the entire Asgard, preventing the death of Freyr.

The four then walked towards where the giant chisel tip is located, as they all have a mission to do. While they were doing this, Atreus quietly approached Zelos.

"Is that why you have that kind of views on war? Because of the Giants' anger?" Atreus then asked, as this directly answered his question of why Zelos had a change of emotion when they had been discussing the War between Light and Dark Elves.

"No, there is another reason for that," Zelos then said, as he then watched Kratos take a piece of the chisel tip with his axe, while Zelos took a larger part.

"I will use this for something," Zelos just said when he noticed that he was being stared at by the others.

"Now that is out of the way, we should go as we still have a lot to accomplish," Mimir then said. This made the four leave the place where a grand battle had just took place.

Behind them, Modi remained on the very pose that Zelos had placed him to be. Modi was trying and using every strength that he could muster to free himself, but like what Mimir had said, there is nothing that could free his body into these kinds of bonds.

"FATHER! GRANDFATHER! HELP ME!" Modi, who cannot move, then yelled. He shouted for help with desperation.

However, despite shouting, Modi's voice was not heard anywhere. Zelos had already anticipated this outcome and made it so that no sound comes outside of the area he had in.

This made it so Modi's voice was not heard by anyone, but Modi will not know this fact. He would only think that he had been abandoned by his family, adding for another torture that Zelos inflicted towards Modi for the rest of his days.
