Chapter 16 - But Listen First

Alexa chuckled at Sean's words. "Child? Act like a good father, huh."

Sean's gaze was cold, searching Alexa's eyes. He didn't find what he was looking for.

"Anyway, I'm still his father. My blood runs in his veins." He growled.

"What kind of father are you talking about? The father who donated his sperm? Oh, right. I forgot, you're his biological father." Alexa said sarcastically, nodding her head.

"I don't like other people touching my child." Sean said sarcastically. Alexa knew exactly what Sean meant.

Alexa pursed her lips. Sean was annoyed by Alexa's expression, which showed she didn't take his words seriously.

"I'm serious, Lexie." He growled.

"I think El is more suited to be this child's father than you are." Alexa pointed at Sean. Alexa's words further enraged Sean. He approached her, his hands gripping her neck so tightly that she could barely breathe.

"Trying to make new plans, eh? Planning to marry Gabriel after this child is born? DREAM ON! Remember who trapped me that night. If you hadn't done that, maybe now I'd be happily enjoying my marriage to the girl I love so much. Not like this marriage." Alexa understood the meaning behind Sean's last sentence. Her hands tried to free themselves from Sean's grip on her neck. Damn, he almost made me suffocate.

Their gazes locked, but there was only implied meaning in each other's eyes. Alexa broke her gaze, snorted, then continued into the room.

A few hours ago

Sean had just arrived at his mansion. He didn't find the woman who was usually watching movies, eating, reading books, or just sitting daydreaming in the yard at this time of day. His eyes shifted to the watch on his wrist. The time was 11 pm and Alexa hadn't returned home yet.

Without thinking twice, he immediately drove his car to the place where Alexa was sure to be. His car pulled up at the Hart family mansion. He didn't have to wait long. Thirty minutes later, he heard a car pull up in the driveway. Sean, who was sipping his coffee, walked to the front door, intending to give her a little surprise. He was sure it was Alexa.

Behind the window curtain, a white car was parked in the driveway. The woman got out, helped by the man, and they laughed together. His gaze was blank, he closed the curtain again. He walked toward the dining table.

***

The morning sunlight greeted the beautiful face of this pregnant woman. Alexa was relaxing while reading a magazine and several stacks of office documents on the table.

"I'm going to the office." Sean stood behind Alexa. It was something he usually did before leaving for work. He told his wife. Alexa responded with a nod.

Sean sighed deeply. He knew Alexa was angry with him because of what had happened last night. Sean's hands untied the neatly tied tie. Now, he stood in front of Alexa, his eyes signaling the messy tie.

Alexa noticed the signal, took a deep breath, and stood up. Sean held Alexa's hand to help her up. Their eyes met, she tilted her head slightly upward and Sean bent down a little so Alexa wouldn't have to strain.

"Stay away from Gabriel." Sean said flatly, his voice barely audible.

"Jealous?" Her hand tied the tie around her husband's collar. Husband? Alexa's lips always curled upward when she thought of this.

"No. I just don't like it when other people touch what belongs to me." Alexa simply nodded. She turned to go downstairs. She was startled when Sean pulled her hand. Now, she was in Sean's embrace. Alexa looked up, their eyes meeting. Sean leaned in, his hand gently caressing Alexa's cheek as he inhaled the scent of vanilla. Feeling their position like this, Alexa closed her eyes, Sean's brow furrowed, and he tapped her forehead.

"Remember our agreement." Sean chuckled.

Alexa's face flushed as she watched Sean leave. "SEAAAAAAN!!!"

Laughter could be heard from outside. Alexa covered her face with both hands. Then, she bit her finger. She immediately ran after her husband.

Sean was seen sitting and enjoying his meal. Alexa tried to act normal, even though she was actually feeling embarrassed at that moment. Sean watched Alexa's movements. Occasionally, the corners of his lips lifted as he watched his wife's behavior.

Alexa sat down, took some jam, and spread it on a slice of bread. Before she could put the bread in her mouth, a voice interrupted her, stopping her action.

"LEXIEEE!!"

Alexa stared intently at the man in front of her. What the hell, she just wanted to eat. Why was this man always yelling?

"WHAT!?"

"You're allergic to peanuts." Alexa was shocked and put the bread back on the plate. She didn't know that the jam she had taken was peanut butter. She hadn't noticed. Her hand quickly grabbed the jam nearby, spread it on the bread, and she was about to eat it. Then she wanted to leave, to get out of Sean's sight as soon as possible.

Without further ado, Sean swapped his bread with Alexa's.

"Be careful next time." While eating Alexa's bread.

Alexa's lips pursed, "Yes."

Suddenly Alexa smiled. "How does it feel to eat bread made by your wife?"

Sean choked and immediately grabbed a drink. "Don't waste food."

Alexa snorted. "You also threw away all my lunch boxes back then."

He remembered it well, after eating food from Alexa he was immediately struck with diarrhea, a few hours before the proposal. Sean cleared his throat. "Actually...."

"Never mind, I don't want to hear it. I bet you're going to defend that country girl, aren't you?" Alexa cut him off quickly.

"You have to know the truth." said Sean.

"The truth is that you threw away my food and chose to eat Liora's burger instead. I already know, no need to explain further." Alexa stared at him lazily.

"No, no. It's not like that." Sean shook his head slowly.

Seeing Sean like that, this time Alexa seriously wanted to know. "So what do you want to explain?"

"Maybe at first I did throw away your food, and I want to apologize for that." Alexa rolled her eyes lazily.

"But listen first." Sean tried to convince Alexa.

"I really ate the food you made. Even though it was stale."

Alexa stared in disbelief after hearing the explanation from the man in front of her. Strange. And it seemed impossible. Only the sound of a knife clinking against the surface of the plate could be heard.

"Do you love me?" Alexa looked at Sean, trying to find the answer in his eyes. Eyes never lie. Isn't that what people always say?

Sean swallowed before speaking, behind the suit, his hands felt cold.

"Y-Yes."
