Chapter 288 - Chapter 38: Reinforcements

Holding the hilt with her left hand and pressing down on the spine of the blade with her right, Rebecca shouted and slammed the chain-toothed greatsword in her hands towards the Honkai Beast in front of her.

The huge forelimb of the Chariot-class Honkai Beast stomped down fiercely, but it was knocked off course by the Valkyrie's attack. The rotating saw teeth instantly shattered the Honkai Beast's carapace, sending white flesh and purple fluid splattering everywhere.

Just as the Honkai Beast lost its balance, a red spear suddenly thrust out from the side, piercing through its red eye and into its brain.

A bright red light flashed on the spear's shaft, followed by a muffled sound. The energy released from the spearhead quickly destroyed the Honkai Beast's brain, and the red patterns on its white carapace instantly dimmed.

Her gaze quickly swept along the spear. Seeing Edna, who was smiling and waiting for praise, a trace of appreciation flashed in Rebecca's eyes, but the battlefield environment didn't allow her to linger.

After catching her breath for a moment, Rebecca immediately rushed towards the next Honkai Beast.

And after she had selected her target, several deep gunshots rang out from behind her. A number of blue, frost-wreathed bullets whistled through the air, heading for the other Honkai Beasts that were approaching.

Even without looking back, Rebecca could imagine Soilo's heroic figure holding her blue and white dual pistols, and a smile crept onto her lips.

The power of the Honkai was indeed great, and the giant Honkai Beasts with their thick carapaces were very dangerous. But with the help of her companions by her side, she was confident she could defeat one powerful enemy after another.

*Bang bang bang!*

The Honkai Energy bullets, which seemed to be formed from frost, struck the Honkai Beast's carapace, and large patches of ice began to spread across its body. Amidst the swirling cold mist, the Honkai Beast's movements became increasingly sluggish.

After the first round of bombing from the Valkyrie forces, the density of the Honkai Beasts had thinned out considerably, but the remaining number was still substantial.

Especially after sensing the advancing Valkyries and the scent of humans, the Honkai Beasts became even more frenzied, roaring and surging madly towards the Valkyrie squad's position.

As the Honkai Beasts gathered, the Valkyrie forces' long-range attacks intensified, increasing their firepower around the areas where the beasts were concentrated.

Storm Squad, deep within the horde, was both a sharp blade and a sufficiently attractive bait.

Despite the fire support from the encampment's forces, this kind of forward push was still extremely dangerous. Only an elite squad equipped with A-rank Valkyries could possibly survive in such a perilous situation.

The white horde of beasts trampled forward across the land, enduring artillery fire while engaged in a fierce battle with clumsy mechs.

The Valkyries of Storm Squad plunged into the horde like sharp blades. A large amount of firepower was directed around the Valkyries, taking care of the Honkai Beasts surrounding them.

And in the sky, drones and Assault-class Honkai Beasts zipped back and forth. Brass bullets and red wing-blades constantly intertwined, and the wreckage of metal creations and Honkai Energy constructs rained down like hailstones.

The whistling of shells was incessant, and the roars of the Honkai Beasts came one after another. The war between humanity and the Honkai was once again playing out on this land, just as it had for thousands of years.

A red warning symbol suddenly flashed on her Tactical Goggles. Edna's heart tightened, and her brown eyes quickly scanned the area, searching for the figure she had only seen in data files.

Based on the pre-battle briefing, she knew exactly what the Honkai Energy Detector's warning meant. It meant they were approaching the Emperor-class Honkai Beast, possibly within a straight-line distance of 100 meters.

And when facing an Emperor-class Honkai Beast, even an A-rank Valkyrie had to be on twelve-tenths alert. Often, a simple oversight could be the difference between life and death.

The fearsome reputation of Emperor-class Honkai Beasts was built upon the lives of countless Valkyries!

"Get out of the way!"

A sharp cry rang out beside her ear. Edna suddenly had a premonition and quickly turned her head, but her vision was already filled with a purple light.

A thick beam of purple light shot out, reaching the Valkyries in an instant, and the Honkai Beasts in its path disintegrated within the dazzling beam.

The purple beam of light emitted an endless aura of destruction, filled with incomparably violent Honkai Energy. Just the overflow of energy alone was enough to carve a deep scar into the ground.

Her brown pupils were illuminated by the purple light, and Edna's mind went blank. Although a voice in her heart told her to flee, her body was already trembling uncontrollably.

In the face of this power that seemed capable of destroying everything, the biological instinct of fear took over!

*Boom!*

The purple beam swept past, destroying everything in its path, friend or foe.

When the purple light subsided, a blank space had appeared on the battlefield. Only the deep scar on the ground testified to what had just happened.

"Huh? I'm... I'm still alive..."

As consciousness returned to her body, Edna's eyes shot open and she cried out in joyful surprise.

Her body jolted, and a blue and white pistol entered Edna's field of vision.

The muzzle of the gun had expanded slightly, and a faint blue light flickered within. After a brief charge, a frost bullet shot out with a whistle.

Feeling the chill that rushed towards her, Edna realized what had happened. Her gaze immediately shifted downwards, and as expected, she saw that exquisite, expressionless face.

"Get up."

Soilo said calmly, looking at Edna with a placid expression.

"Ah... sorry, sorry!"

Edna's cheeks flushed red as her peripheral vision caught sight of a Honkai Beast that had been turned into an ice sculpture nearby, and she felt the soft sensation beneath her.

As a B-rank Valkyrie who had been through many battles, she couldn't believe it had taken her so long to react.

Feeling a bit embarrassed, Edna hurriedly stood up and turned her gaze to that conspicuously large figure. A name instantly flashed through her mind—Ganesha!

Thinking of the destructive beam of light from just a moment ago, Edna couldn't help but feel a lingering fear. Could she really fight against such a terrifying monster?

That mountain-like body, that solid-looking carapace, the constantly flashing red numbers on the Honkai Energy Detector—all of it showed just how terrifying Ganesha was.

"Is... is that... our... target?"

Looking at the ferocious "white elephant," Edna swallowed hard and asked with uncertainty.

"Yes, and no." Rebecca revealed a mysterious smile as she cut down an approaching Honkai Beast. "We have reinforcements."

Edna, who had just helped Soilo deal with an Arbalest-class Honkai Beast, stirred at these words. She was about to ask when the reinforcements would arrive when a strange whistling sound reached her ears.

Following the source of the sound, she saw a silver meteor falling from the sky.

It was a person in silver armor!

And in that person's right hand, a black longsword was accumulating a menacing sword gleam.
