Half an hour passed before they finally killed every single one the ruin predators. Everyone was utterly spent. Some had even collapsed to the floor, unable to make any more movements.
"Ugh… I feel like I'm dying."
One of the newly evolved groaned. His name was Jayden. A CIA undercover agent before the apocalypse. He had been wandering around in Night Veil City with his gun when he was almost killed by a small horde he foolishly attracted. Luckily, Daddy Ye was there to save him.
"At least you didn't die." His friend, Jones snickered.
They both lay on the ground, gazing into the darkness above.
At that moment, Leon's calm voice reached them.
"Rest up for fifteen minutes. We need to leave before these things respawn."
The others gulped. Respawn? Didn't that mean the dead monsters would come alive again?
"Oh goodness, I'm beat."
Now, it was Jones' turn to complain. Fifteen minutes was just too short. He wished they could have days.
Surveying them all, Leon had a thoughtful expression.
'No casualties, but many injured. They're holding out, but they're currently tired.'
His gaze shifted to Cassie and Anna who were also recuperating while tending to their wounds. The girls had been injured while facing the Alpha Ruin Predator. Fortunately, their injuries weren't severe nor would it hinder them in the future battles too much.
'It's all part of growth.'
Unexpectedly, two people came out almost unscathed in the battle. These two were Rebecca and Aisha, the two spear wielders in the team. Their synergy was so high that Leon thought their minds were somehow connected.
'Huh… I'll have to focus on nurturing them too.'
There were a few other talents like Jones and Jayden among the newly evolved, but they paled in comparison with the two girls.
Leon nodded subtly at Old Pipe, then walked towards Ice. The young lady was surprised, seeing him approach, but tried to look composed.
'Why am I unnerved? I mean, he's younger than me. So…'
"Amelia." He called, low and firm. "What exactly is your class?"
She stiffened slightly, then frowned. "Why are you asking? It's kinda personal."
Leon didn't answer, only intensifying the pressure behind his stare.
"Ugh, fine. It's called Ice Warlock. Rare Level. Coats wounds dealt by me with ice. Satisfied now?"
Leon nodded, then turned to Daddy Ye. "You?"
The adult man didn't find anything wrong in sharing. "It's called Berserker. Unique Level. Though I can't use it all the time. You saw it the last time."
Indeed, Leon remembered when Daddy Ye had transformed into a towering giant to fight, then passed out. It must have been the drawback.
Old Pipe was next. "Haha, my class is actually a bit clichè. Lightning God. Legendary Level. Sounds boastful right?"
Leon's eyes rippled slightly. In his past life, he hadn't heard of a popular class called 'Lightning God'. But he'd heard of the 'Fire God'. This class belonged to someone like Scarface who reached the Tenth Level Evolution. If Old Pipe's class was really similar, then there was a chance he could also reach that level.
Nodding to himself, Leon finally turned to Shadow. "What is your real name?"
The young man was slightly surprised, but quickly recovered. "I'm Williams Colt."
"Class?"
"Shadow Ghost—Epic Level. With it, I can conceal myself much better in the presence of shadows."
"Interesting."
After gathering the information needed, Leon began to plan in his mind.
'The Frost Warlock, Berserker, Lightning God, and Shadow Ghost. These are classes with potential. Raising them would be resource-consuming, but productive. Looks like I'll have to use the Class Upgrade Cards on them.'
He was sure that this item would be among the rewards for conquering the dungeon. Class Upgrade Card was as explanatory as its name. It was just being used to upgrade a person's class from one level to another. In general, there were six levels of Class Upgrade Cards—the Level 2 C.U.C, then Level 3, Level 4 till Level 7 C.U.C.
"Alright. Fifteen minutes are up, let's get moving."
Calling their attention, Leon began to make his way deeper into the dungeon. The others reluctantly followed him, exhaustion still lingering in their bones. When they passed by the Alpha Ruin Predator's corpse, they couldn't help but reassess Cassie and Anna. Those two had faced this monster and killed it by themselves. It was a huge feat.
"Goblins up ahead." Leon warned as he folded his arms again.
He remained at the back and allowed them to fight the group of short, green, humanoid, club-wielding monsters.
Luckily, the goblins were not that strong. They only had the numbers advantage but the Red Wings members quickly finished them off.
In two hours, they cleared four more levels without any casualty. In the end, those Ruin Predators had been their most troublesome foes.
Finally, they arrived before a pair of towering red doors that stood imposingly.
"This is the boss room. You all should get ready for nasty numbers. I'll handle the boss while you take care of the minions."
Immediately he said that, Leon pushed the doors open and stepped inside. The remaining group members followed him immediately.
Inside the vast room, hundreds of skeleton warriors were arranged orderly on the two sides of the room, leaving a straight line that lead to the throne placed on high pedestals.
"Konnichiwa…"
As soon as Leon's words left his mouth, all the undead turned towards them. Even the Undead King raised his head.
Leon cracked his neck, then straightened himself.
"Let's get this on, shall we?"
He unsheathed his blades and walked forward.
Clack! Clack! Clack! Clack!
In a flurry of shaking bones, the undead warriors surged towards him. Leon ignored them and said to the others.
"Keep them occupied till I finish their king."
Boom!
Before anyone could reply him, he shot through the undead army in a blink, obliterating all those on his path.
'What the hell? Brother Leon is so fast!' Little Tiger watched in fascination.
In a flash, Leon appeared before the Undead King and slashed down with his swords. The Undead King calmly raised his own bone sword to meet his assault.
Clang! Boom!
Leon was sent flying.
