"Harley, you can continue the 'magic' show." After dealing with the silly, sweet Shayna in an understatement, "Poison Ivy" Ivy sat gracefully on the chair that Connors had grown from plants and spoke to Harley on the stage.
"Boring." Harley Quinn had no desire to perform at this time. "Ivy, you're making too much noise." At this point, the audience was tied to their seats one by one, and no one had any thought of continuing to watch the "magic" show. First, there were the toxin spores, then the plant bundles, and then the spreading frost. The successive encounters left Gotham's audience thinking only that their lives mattered; how could they care about any performance?
[Eat Melon Today: Deadly Toxin][Submit?]
Connors, in the audience, had eaten a melon that was neither big nor small up close. He didn't feel much pity for Harley's walk-out. The silly and sweet female star next to him, on the other hand, was a different story. After being kissed by "Poison Ivy" Ivy, she couldn't help but rub against him like a cat.
"Poison Ivy" Ivy had come here after realizing that there were a lot of plants at the stadium, and her target was Connors. Harley Quinn's performance was also dispensable to her. On the contrary, Zatanna, who was "the victim" and was locked up in the iron cage, felt quite sorry.
"Since you are not going to continue, can you tell me how you planned to achieve the 'let the living disappear' magic?" Even in her cage, Zatanna's voice was not flustered at all, but rather tender.
"Hey, this little trick is incomparable to a great magician like you," Harley Quinn sighed with some frustration, then pulled a knife from her waist. The knife flew from her hand, spun through the air above the stadium, and then appeared to pierce something like a balloon. A large amount of khaki gas spread out.
"This is something I configured myself, based on Scarecrow's fear gas, which can make the audience dizzy for a while…" Harley Quinn said.
The strapped-down audience did start to faint as well. Meanwhile, Harley lifted the iron cage with both hands, allowing Zatanna to get out from the bottom.
Zatanna got out of the cage and curiously sniffed the khaki gas in the air, suddenly realizing, "It's nominally magic, but in fact, your target was these spectators in the stadium, right? I smell something that can make people hallucinate."
Harley Quinn still looked dejected. "Yes, everything you said is right. I just wanted to rely on myself to make news, but now it's no good." She pointed to the three people—Connors, Ivy, and Shayna—sitting motionless in their positions under the stage.
"I'm afraid it will only be published in tomorrow's newspapers that 'Poison Ivy appeared in the stadium, and the female star turns out to be not an ordinary person.'"
"It will only be written in the small corner of the newspaper by some ostracized young reporter that 'Harley Quinn' kidnapped the entire stadium."
"No, no one will remember that poor Harley Quinn even appeared on stage."
That grieved little look made Zatanna feel distressed for a while, but when she thought about it, it was wrong. This was obviously a madman who wanted to stun the entire stadium with hallucinogenic gas and then kidnap six to seven thousand people collectively. So Zatanna withdrew the comfort that was almost to her lips and whispered something that no one present could understand. Then, her whole person disappeared out of thin air.
Connors didn't understand the words, but it didn't prevent him from knowing what it was—Backwards Magic! As one of DC's top magicians, Zatanna's signature ability was her reverse-speech magic. It's just that now, Zatanna didn't seem to have studied magic that deeply. It was clear that the person had disappeared, but Connors's spider-sense told him that she was still on stage, leaving with brisk steps.
"Stealth?"
With the power of magic, Zatanna left the stadium, but did not go too far, instead appearing in an apartment she had rented in advance.
"The method of becoming famous through magic shows and then finding my father through the news and newspapers doesn't seem to work in Gotham… I have to think of other methods," Zatanna said to herself. She had no clue what to do, now that the magic show had just been messed up by this group of people.
After much thought, she simply picked up her magic wand and waved it in the air, making a small opening in the air, and then leaned over. The scene on the other side of the opening was none other than Connors, Shayna, Ivy, and Harley, who were still in the stadium. She was really curious about what these guys, who were not ordinary people at first glance, were going to do next.
"Harley, I'm sorry…" Ivy had already stood up and was supporting a depressed Harley down from the stage with both hands.
Connors pushed away Shayna's hand, which was trying to reach a sensitive area. Listening to the femme fatale "Poison Ivy" apologize to Harley Quinn, he had probably guessed why. The first time Harley wanted to do something alone, she was taken away by Poison Ivy. The second time, Harley ran to Arkham but accidentally prompted the Joker's escape plan in advance. Now, for the third time, Harley only wanted to make news for herself but was sabotaged by the appearance of "Poison Ivy." Frustrated one after another, Harley Quinn had begun to question herself.
"Bad things always happen in places with too many humans, Harley. You could try to paralyze the traffic and electricity in Gotham, which is much easier than working hard to perform magic," "Poison Ivy" said, comforting her. It's just that these comforting words sounded wrong somehow.
Connors was fine with it, but the audience, tied up by the plants, had already started to panic.
"Right!" Harley Quinn's eyes lit up. "The Joker tried pouring laughing gas into the reservoir, and I could destroy Gotham's power and plunge them into darkness!"
"No, I should have hacked into Gotham's TV channels so everyone could only tune in to damn ads!"
An open conspiracy… Connors once again pulled out the hand that Shayna had put into his clothes and helped her stand up.
"Harley, you go to the old place and wait for me. I have a better plan to tell you," Connors said first to Harley. After she had finished speaking, he faced the extremely temperamental Ivy. "…Wouldn't you follow Harley and wait for me?"
Connors's plan was simple. He was going to advance the Joker's "The Man Who Laughs" event, and he was going to put it in place in one step. Specifically, he was going to put Batman in Arkham Asylum.
"What about you?" Ivy's eyes wandered between Connors and Shayna.
"I'll take care of your sins." With that, Connors helped Shayna walk past the strapped-in audience. Just now, the cold air had been so overwhelming, and coupled with Poison Ivy's deterrence, the audience hadn't recognized the female star who had come to Gotham for a concert. But now, quite a few people recognized her. Before they could move, Connors was manipulating the plants to blindfold them.
In another apartment, Zatanna saw the two "sisters," Harley Quinn and Ivy, leave the stadium. Thinking that there would be some fun to watch in the follow-up, she couldn't help but yawn. Then, Zatanna placed her perspective back on Connors, who was helping Shayna away.
Their interaction was intimate, easy to understand.
Zatanna's mouth was dry and her heart was racing. She closed the ripped-open portal in the air so quickly that she buried her face between her knees.
