Chapter 57 - Black Swan: So, I took action.

Is it about Holstein?

Leon didn't know.

He pushed the door open, thinking he'd find out once he got inside.

Creeak!

The door swung wide open, revealing an unexpectedly empty interior.

Just a vacant room.

Leon wouldn't trust a superficial illusion.

His eyes could lie, but his intuition couldn't.

With steady footsteps, Leon entered the room and headed straight for a corner.

Sssshhh-rip!

He curved the fingers of his right hand and swiped them through the air from left to right, his fingertips coated in azure Imaginary energy.

The disguise of Remembrance was utterly shattered by The Hunt!

The hidden iceberg appeared fully before his eyes.

It was a Memory Bubble, and it didn't look special at all.

"What is this thing."

Leon took it out, raised it, and tilted his head back to examine it.

So secretive. It definitely wasn't an ordinary item.

It was a no-brainer. If it were just a normal object, it wouldn't have been hidden so deeply. It had to have something special about it.

Otherwise, who would have the time to create such a troublesome disguise just for a single Memory Bubble.

"Time to open a blind box."

Leon said, sliding the Memory Bubble into his palm and clenching his fist, ready to probe the memory within.

As his consciousness delved deeper, a blurry scene appeared before his eyes.

A mysterious lady and a monster shrouded in black mist were talking face-to-face, though he couldn't tell what they were discussing.

This was the content of the Memory Bubble.

The woman wore a candy-colored long dress, and her features were as difficult to discern as the monster's.

The candy-colored lady seemed to sense a third party's gaze, turning her head slightly to glance at him from the corner of her eye.

"A Heavenly General of The Hunt...?"

The Memory Bubble was clearly storing a past memory, yet this lady acted as if she were present in person.

"Are you the one who's been making a name for himself recently?"

Not only could she speak normally, but she could also move her body freely.

"A pleasure to meet you. I am Polka Kakamond."

The candy-colored lady turned to face him directly, speaking word by word, "You may also call me the Lord of Silence."

"Seeing me, you don't retreat? Instead, you confront me head-on?" Leon didn't flinch or look away, meeting her gaze.

"My Omniscience Domain cannot tolerate the unknown. When the time of Erudition's reckoning arrives, I believe we will have a final resolution."

Polka said coldly.

"Don't make me laugh. You think your stats are high enough to talk to me like that?"

Leon was completely unafraid, retorting without a shred of politeness.

"Cut the crap. Me, avoid you?"

As his words fell, the Vanquisher slung over his shoulder erupted in a brilliant azure glow, as if responding to his statement.

"This is..."

The confident, victorious tone in Polka's voice was now clearly tinged with surprise and astonishment.

Crack!

The Memory Bubble shattered, and Leon's consciousness returned from the immersive experience to reality.

"So this is the mad dog raised by Erudition?"

Leon looked at the cracked, now-dull Memory Bubble in his hand, feeling utterly baffled.

"Hidden so deep, and I thought it was something good. Turns out it was just a useless conversation with some riddle-spouting weirdo."

Leon said, tossing the Memory Bubble to Phantylia.

"And she likes being a riddler. I really don't get it. People who can't speak plainly like that wouldn't even deserve a seat at the table where I come from."

He couldn't understand what genius had so much time on their hands that they'd hide something so worthless so deeply.

"Keep it safe. We're off to the next stop."

If he weren't afraid of damaging the Memories within the Garden of Recollection, he would have already blown the whole place up with an arrow.

"What are you looking for?"

Before he could push the door open to leave, an elegant female voice suddenly rang out by his ear.

Immediately after, the scene in the room changed abruptly.

Unique stained-glass windows rose up on all four sides, and a dim violet light cast its glow, instantly suffusing the room with a strange atmosphere.

"Perhaps I can help you."

A purple-haired woman wearing a veil sat cross-legged in mid-air, her hand supporting her chin, a benevolent smile playing on her lips.

A Galaxy Ranger.

A bit mysterious, a bit forthright, and a bit of a character.

The moment he entered the Garden of Recollection, Black Swan, herself something of a stowaway, had keenly sensed his presence.

Driven by curiosity and the possibility of cooperation, she had been paying attention to him for a while.

When he easily tore through the disguise of Remembrance that she had been powerless against and obtained that sealed Memory Bubble...

...Black Swan knew he was an indispensable ally for her own debt-collecting journey.

"Would you like to cooperate with me, Mr. Ranger?"

As she spoke, Black Swan stood up and walked forward.

The tapping of her heels against the floor echoed continuously in the empty room.

"I can help you find the Memory Bubble of Holstein. In return, I hope you can help me retrieve a Memory Bubble as well. What do you say?"

Black Swan extended her hand toward him, as if inviting him to a dance.

Everyone has a past; the past makes the present.

Some people can grasp their Memories, while others are ensnared by them, unable to escape.

Before cooperating, she really wanted to know which category this Galaxy Ranger before her fell into.

So...

She made her move!

Probing the experiences of others through Remembrance is something every Memokeeper does casually when forming a relationship with someone.

Everyone can lie, but Memories cannot.

In the night's hunt, The Hunt is not the only hunter.

Trading, copying, stealing, luring—Memokeepers use every means at their disposal to collect precious Memories.

Black Swan was no exception.

Leon looked down at the hand extended by the mysterious veiled woman who had suddenly appeared before him.

"You're a real turn-off, sis."

He made no move, only uttered that one sentence.

"?"

Black Swan's outstretched hand froze, and her expression became a little unnatural.

A turn-off? Who? Her?

Seriously, dude!

Say what you will, but Black Swan had some confidence in her looks.

While she couldn't claim to surpass Idrila, there was no way she could be described as a turn-off, right?

No, seriously, her character model is this good and she's a turn-off? Is this guy even a man?

Black Swan sized him up with astonishment.

Fine, in terms of character models, he was indeed on her level. The top spot on any 'must-have' list would look just like this.

He clearly had a way with women, so it was no surprise he'd call her a turn-off.

"If you want to cooperate, then let's cooperate. What are you trying to do with that hand?"

If you want to get intimate with me, show me your total damage and DPS first. If they're too low, don't even bother. You'll just contaminate my cup rating.

"I'm Black Swan. And you are?"

Fine. Black Swan retracted her hand, introducing herself with considerable resignation.

Hearing her name, Leon answered instinctively, "I'm Goose Delivery."

"...Could you please provide a proper codename."

"Then just call me Sun," Leon said, feeling he had no choice.

"Never mind. Regarding our cooperation, what is your stance?"

Black Swan conceded defeat. It was better to talk business with him.
