In Yami's original world, the Nine-Tailed Fox is famous everywhere, especially in the island nation's yokai lore.
There, the Nine-Tailed Fox is one of the Three Great Yokai alongside Shuten-dōji and the Great Tengu, and its renown surpasses the other two.
Thus it is also called the foremost of all yokai.
As the greatest yokai in legend, the Nine-Tailed Fox possesses overwhelming power.
It is said that merely reverting to its true form, its colossal body tore hundreds of people to shreds.
The Nine-Tailed Fox not only commands the elements of wind, fire, lightning, and cloud, it can create organ-shattering sonic waves, trigger earthquakes and meteors, even unleash floods and toxic miasma.
In the world of One Piece, which hails from that same island nation, the Nine-Tailed Fox's lore is very similar.
However, the Devil Fruit Encyclopedia does not record earthquakes, meteors, or floods among its powers, only charm and elemental control.
Either previous Nine-Tailed Fox users never developed it that far, or the Mythical Zoan: Nine-Tailed Fox simply does not possess those three calamities.
Even so, elemental power alone is more than enough.
When Carina develops the Nine-Tailed Fox, she can use a clear template for reference: Kaido, who ate the Mythical Zoan, Azure Dragon.
Kaido's Azure Dragon form likewise rules flame, lightning, wind, and cloud.
A casual strike in beast form can warp heaven and earth into a cataclysm.
Especially the move Fire Dragon Torch, which is absurd to the extreme.
If his opponent hadn't suddenly turned into the Mythical Zoan Nika, Kaido would have remained the ultimate showcase of Mythical Zoans.
Following Kaido's template, Carina may not reach Kaido's tier, but she will at least be at an Emperor's top executive level in the future.
If she develops further powers of the Nine-Tailed Fox—such as the earthquakes and meteors of legend—then even without Conqueror's Haki, Carina would be Marine Admiral class.
Beyond these, the Nine-Tailed Fox has the most fearsome trait of all: nine lives.
Like the Mythical Zoan, Yamata-no-Orochi, each tail of the Nine-Tailed Fox represents one life.
The Devil Fruit Encyclopedia's basic entry lists charm transformation, elemental power, and nine lives.
Of course, it also notes the fruit's drawback.
As with the Yamata-no-Orochi, if Carina is killed once, she will lose one tail.
With each tail lost, Carina loses one ability.
Whether lost tails can grow back, Yami does not know, and the encyclopedia does not say.
Thus Carina's Nine-Tailed Fox form is strongest when whole.
If she can avoid dying, she must avoid dying.
Time slipped by; in the blink of an eye, a week passed.
After Carina ate the Mythical Zoan: Nine-Tailed Fox, the atmosphere aboard the Pegasus changed dramatically.
Because Carina was simply too mischievous.
A naturally lively girl, now armed with a transformation that even Observation Haki couldn't see through, she let her witchy nature run free.
In just three days, everyone—Yami included—got pranked by Carina's shapeshifting at least once.
When people were busy, Carina would now and then turn into Yami's likeness, either ordering them around or teasing Nami and the others.
While teasing Robin, Carina discovered a secret between her Master and Robin-nee.
The two of them were sneaking off together.
No—more accurately, Robin-nee had snuck ahead of the line.
Carina ground her teeth at that, even more upset than Nami.
Because she had been first.
Though Carina and Nami had become Yami's maids at the same time, Carina was the first to make a proactive move among the four.
Before discovering Yami and Robin's secret, Carina believed she was the one closest to Yami.
But it turned out someone else had jumped the queue.
So, to get back at Robin, Carina decided to crank up the pranks.
Unfortunately, without Nami's surveillance-grade Observation Haki, she had no idea how far Yami and Robin's relationship had gone.
Before she could make Robin lose face, her disguise was seen through, and she suffered Robin's yoga-style punishment.
If not for her greatly enhanced physique, Carina would have had her joints practically taken apart.
But Carina also set her sights firmly on Robin.
To reclaim her pride, Carina brought out her trump cards and started gathering intel.
First, understand when Robin and Yami spent time alone, then use her acting to find a chance to strike back.
Thus, when Yami was alone shooting hoops and training Life Return, Carina secretly turned into Robin, put on a cheerleader outfit, and approached Yami.
Within just two "rounds," Carina reverted to her true form and fled the arena, face burning red.
She kept muttering to herself—too big, too scary, that was close, how did it escalate to that point…
Before she could calm down, Yami, covered in black lines of exasperation, caught her, slapped seastone cuffs on her, and hung her from the deck for a full day.
Hearing about it from Yami, Robin also blushed for once and used the Hana-Hana no Mi to tickle Carina over and over, sealing the mischievous witch back inside.
From that day on, Carina didn't dare use transformation for pranks anymore.
Master's and Robin-nee's punishments were far too terrifying.
Of course, these were just little spices in daily life.
After eating the Mythical Zoan: Nine-Tailed Fox, Carina also trained hard to develop her fruit.
After all, on this ship, Robin and Perona's roles are support; only she and Nami are front-line fighters.
Before eating a fruit, Carina had been the weakest aboard.
Even now as a Mythical Zoan user, the gap between Carina and Nami remained staggering.
Before mastering Armament Haki, Carina couldn't put any real pressure on Nami.
Nami only needed to use electric-field teleportation to run Carina in circles.
But Nami didn't dare tease Carina either, and these days she made a point of keeping the former "golden thigh" happy.
Because Carina's thunderclouds held Nami's lifeline.
With the Ark Maxim's schematics, Nami had the blueprint to develop Ten Thousand Thunders and Thunder Summons.
But both wide-area ultimate techniques require a vast reserve of thunderclouds.
To create such thunderclouds, Nami had only two methods: build the Ark Maxim, or manufacture a thundercloud and then have Yami's Mo-Mo Fruit enlarge it a hundredfold.
Both are extremely troublesome.
The first needs too many components and isn't portable.
As for the second, it's even more pointless.
If Master has to help set up Thunder Summons, how strong must the enemy be?
You can't ask Master to carry you mid-fight every time.
Thus, with Carina's ability to create thunderclouds, she once again became Nami's pillar.
