"Ahhhhhhhhhhh"
Ren woke up with a yell and a hand on his neck rubbing it.
He had seen a nightmare again. They were a always brutal and random.
This time he was locked up in some kind of high tech science laboratory and was being used as a test subject. The last thing he remembered was getting his head but off after the 'mad scientist' got bored of cutting open his gut and limbs as it always heals almost instantly.
With a big sigh he got up and went to the kitchen of his cozy home to drink some water.
This house was the only thing he owned after the gene, which had one bedroom with a bed, a kitchen, a washroom and a vidscreen(TV) in the living room. He lived alone so this was enough for him. He was very self sufficient, he could cook, and tend to minor or even major injuries to some degree as he always gets beaten up. yesterday he was lucky to have got saved and healed up by professor Caius.
He drank his water and sat down on the couch after turning on the vidpanel. It was a one week holiday and he had already had plans for the week which would start with a bit of entertainment.
Usually he would go train his body or practice his sword and martial arts early in the morning even if it didn't help him much, but today he was completely drained of energy after what happened yesterday. Even though he had no physical injuries or even pain he still remembered getting completely bloodied so his mind still haven't recovered and the nightmare he had wasn't helping.
"7 of the 10 sovereign families will be working together to form an assault force of 600 evolvers, 300 striders, 50 reavers and 5 of the 7 scion level humans to raid Umbra the 1st planet in the sunless system. If succeeded means that the humans will advance to a level 3 civilization" said an female reporter on the vidscreen
"Now let us have a talk with the person who will lead this raid Mr.Rhyse "
The vidpanel showed a muscular middle aged man with a beard and hair that was combed back neatly wearing a white suit.
"Yes" started Mr.Rhyse
"we hope to set out for this mission in 5 months, and begin the raid 2 months later."
"Our best people will be participating in this raid and the numbers show us more than 50% chance in winning this battle against the Umbrakyn. We have failed thrice before, but we have gotten stronger since and I will ensure our victory this time" he said.
Ren couldn't understand what emotion he had behind those extremely short words, was it pride?, confidence?, fear? He didn't know as the news concluded with Mr.Rhyse's face still frozen on the screen.
After that he watched a couple of more shows and started getting ready to head out. It was his 17th birthday tomorrow and nobody but him knew of this as he didn't have anyone close enough to tell this to, not even professor Caius.

He finally arrived at the inter city transport system. It is a busy place at every time of the day especially in the Central city (also known as Goldcrest city).
He is standing before a magnificent building in the shape of a dome made of glass making dozens of beastly locomotives visible. If you looked closely you could see that these locomotives were actually floating about two millimeters above ground. The locomotives themselves look like trains but heavily armored to protect it from the beasts roaming on earth.
The humans were not the only ones who awakened and received super human powers 250 years ago, animals did as well. And they all turned hostile against humans making even earth not completely safe.
As he walked through the different entrances that lead to locomotives that take you to specific cities and finally stopped at a unusually empty entrance. While all the others were packed and overflowing with passengers this one looked abandoned
He didn't mind this and went ahead and payed for his ride.
Inside the locomotive, it had dozens of red coloured seats which were all mostly empty so he sat down on a window seat to get a good view outside.
After a few minutes the locomotive started moving and reached a average speed of around 500km per hour.
After the first few minutes of him seeing the Central city he finally started seeing the wild. Even though the creatures living on earth has gotten all powerful and the technology has developed enough to make humans be able to breath in a vacuum the earths natural beauty still doesn't fall behind in truly surprising him.
Hell in his opinion this is what is truly impressive, to survive this long amongst super human creatures, you really have to admire the tenacity of these trees.
But no matter how beautiful it is, the creatures living within it are all harrowing and only evolvers dare to go inside them. It is always the most beautiful things that are the most dangerous.
As he continued looking out of the window time flew by and he was already at his destination. Lushwyn city. His birth place and his mothers village.
As he exited the locomotive what was in front of him was nothing like that of the station of Central city, it was not at all magnificent it looked as if it was there just for the sake of being there. There were cracks in the glass dome some which were a couple years old and some new, the station floor was littered and nobody took any initiative to even clean it. While holding his breath he looked around and only saw 5 more people beside him who were all covering their noses.
This was actually an improvement last time on he visited it was only him. After looking at the other people their who wore disgusted and hopeless expressions on their faces, he took wide steps avoiding all the litter and made his way to the exit.
After he got out of the station he took a deep breath which filled his lungs with fresh green air. Lushwyn city is far from the Central city, which used artificial oxygen due to the high level of pollution it is causing and because Lushwyn city is far away and because it is less developed than most if not all other cities it has very fresh natural air that has hardly been polluted.
"How i missed this" Ren thought to himself with a smile
The only reason he went to the Central city and join the academy was to get proper training before receiving his ascended level gene. And this was not any kind of gene but a cluster gene that will find the most suitable powers it has in its arsenal to help Ren.
He has no idea why his parents left him that as they are really rare but is absolutely trash except for finding a power that suits him as it has a lot of different kinds of genes stored in while none of it are actually even at a decent level, so even if he fully synchronize with it he will be weaker that a person at strider stage with a normal gene.
With a disappointed sigh after recalling why he left this place he started to walk. The houses here were mostly made of wood and only very few houses could be seen that has been built with bricks or Ethrion. Unlike in the Central city where everything is made of the new ore called Ethrion which was introduced 250 years ago.
As he walked through the city road passing by houses and people, everyone scowled at him clearly not pleased to see him.
Not everyone gets to become an evolver and becoming an evolver promised riches of all kinds, and above all respect. Even the weakest of evolvers were respected by the normal citizens and everyone dreamed of becoming one for this. The true duty of evolvers was to battle against beasts on earth and to capture new planets so humans could advance. Unfortunately, at least 60% of the current evolvers were their just for the promised riches and haven't fought a real battle all their lives. They could become simple guards but will earn the money a normal citizen would make in a year in just a day. And of course most of these people were thinking of doing the same and didn't like Ren getting to be an evolver.
Ren just ignored all of them and continued walking until he reached his destination. Thinking about how corrupted the evolvers now were.
He stopped in front of a small average house just like any other in the area, opened its door and walked in.
"I'm back"
But their is no one to hear it as the couple who lived here died a couple of years back. They were an elderly couple who took care of him after his parents were murdered, he still have occasional nightmares of that night but he was only an infant at the time and can hardly remember anything. The elderly couple who looked after him died of old age when he was only 7 and he had been living alone since.
With a smile on his face he came inside and sat on the dusty couch. He looked around and noticed that everything was covered by a layer of dust.
The house didn't have much just two bedrooms one for him and one for the couple that lived here and other essentials for living, it also had a book shelf filled to the brim with dusty old paper books and he had read all of it. It was mostly about the history of earth and space explorations.
Paper books were pretty rare as almost all the reading materials available now are holographic, so he took good care of his books even though he doesn't have any use for them anymore.
"Ahhh, i have to clean this some time" he took a mental note to himself.
He got up again after not even a second of resting and walked back out of the door to visit a special place he had in mind, as he did so a large tree bark came flying and fell right on top of his house completely destroying it and a couple of more as it slid on the ground destroying everything and killing a few people.
Before he could process what was happening a loud siren sounded.
