Before Raya could respond, one of Adrian's men walked in briskly, his eyes wide with urgency. "Miss Kealo, we're under attack!"
"What do you mean we're under attack?" Kaelo snapped, rising from her seat so quickly her chair screeched across the marble floor.
The messenger stood at the doorway, chest heaving, panic sweating down his temple. "We... we don't know who they are, yey!"
Derek shot to his feet as well. "You don't recognize any of them? Their colors? Their crest?"
"No, sir," the messenger stammered, shaking his head again.
Before a single person could ask more, gunfire cracked through the air, sharp, rapid bursts that rattled the massive windows.
The chandelier above them trembled.
Diana gasped. "We need to call Adrian, now!"
Raya and Camilla both dropped lower in their seats instinctively, shoulders curled in as though pressing themselves small would somehow shield them from the chaos outside.
